As a natural hair product junkie it is always a treat to try a new product for my kinky coils. This week’s #SheTriedIt features The Mane Choice’s Hair Growth Oil. The Mane Choice is a hair growth product line that aims to promote hair follicle stimulation and length retention with its line of hair growth supplements, a shampoo, conditioner and hair growth oil, which you can find at Target, Rite Aid, Sally Beauty Supply and online.
I am not a fan of taking supplements due to my ultra-sensitive skin, but I decided to give the hair growth oil a try. As a child, I experienced issues with hair loss at my temples due to traction alopecia and reactions to chemical relaxers. I figured the growth oil would be a good alternative to taking medication to stimulate growth in these areas.
Initially, what attracted me were the ingredients. Yes– I am an ingredient snob. I try to avoid chemicals, toxins and carcinogens in most of the body products that I use, especially those that I put in my hair. Some of the ingredients include sweet almond oil, rosemary oil, grape seed oil, chamomile and nettle extract, and coconut oil– all of which are known to promote hair growth.
The Multi-Vitamin Scalp Nourishing Oil suggests using the oil as a leave-in on damp or dry hair; however, I decided to implement the oil in my deep conditioning process. *Yes, I have just ONE loc. 🙂
After about one hour of deep conditioning, using my usual conditioner and the hair growth oil, I rinsed my hair and let it air dry. Here are the results.
My impression of the oil — I love it! Even though I used the oil as a moisturizing agent instead of a leave-in, I felt my coils were more defined and softer. The oil did not feel heavy, as oil mixtures can often lay on the scalp which usually irritates me. A highlight of the oil is the smell, which added a bit of citrus to my deep conditioning process. I will monitor my temples to see if my hair is actually growing , but as a nourishing scalp agent, I thoroughly approve of the product!
