Did you know that most of us will spend over $1,000 on Starbucks before this year is over? Most of us are looking for a little pick-me-up when it comes to facing a long day at work. And while coffee is one of the most popular drinks in America when it comes to increasing energy, it isn’t the only beverage it pays to drink at work.
Coffee may give you a caffeine boost, but that’s not all most of us need to get through a day at our desks. Whether you need to stay calm while dealing with an influx of assignments at work, build up your energy (without compromising your sleep at night), or do what you can to keep from snapping at your co-workers, there are lots of drinks that are perfect for a long day at work. And no worries, they don’t require a coffee pot or coffee cup to make.
Black Tea
When work stresses you out, black tea has unique properties that help you brush it all off of your shoulders faster by helping stress hormones return to normal in a hurry.
Water
A good reason to keep a bottle on your desk at all times? Studies show that when you’re well hydrated, you think more clearly, have better focus, and get more creative.
Milk
A glass of warm milk before bed isn’t the only thing that reportedly reduces stress. Having a glass during a particularly trying work day can also lower your stress levels to help you make it to the end of the day.
Chamomile Tea
Are upcoming projects making you feel anxious? Chamomile tea is a natural anti-anxiety medicine that helps you handle stress when it seems to keep coming from all sides.
Rooibos Tea
Not only is Rooibos tea delicious and full of caffeine, but it also keeps your stress hormones balanced to keep you oblivious to the drama all day long.
Hot Chocolate
Need a sweet pick me up in the afternoon that’s not another cup of joe? Try dark hot chocolate. It’s full of antioxidants and other beneficial properties that will energize you, put you in a great mood and leave you calm enough to sleep soundly later on.
A Fruit Smoothie
Head to Jamba Juice instead of Starbucks at lunch time and you’ll beat after-lunch brain fog. Or make your own fruity concoction. Fruit smoothie staples like blueberries and strawberries improve your brain power and make it easier to concentrate all the way into another late night.
Soda
About to fall asleep at your desk? It might be time to have a soda. The high sugar content will perk you up and keep you from nodding off in a pinch. Want something a little more healthy? Keep cold juice in the fridge for your emergency sugar boost.
A Spinach Smoothie
Spinach smoothies can be surprisingly delicious with the right blend of fruits. And such drinks can give your memory a serious boost during the day — and even help reduce your brain age over time.
Ginkgo
Browse the drink aisle at your local corner store and you’re bound to find lots of drinks with ginkgo supplements. Drink one before your big presentation to boost your memory and improve your concentration.
Peppermint Tea
Just the smell of peppermint can give you an energy boost and beat fatigue to improve your performance at work while reducing your anxiety.
