At this point, it’s been established that Monica and Ciara’s friendship is a thing of the past. And while the source of their conflict remains a mystery, the singer is adamant that Ci’s ex-fiancé Future’s alleged infidelity is not what drove them apart.

“I read something that I didn’t tell her about somebody cheating, none of that stuff is true,” she told Streetz 94.5 in Atlanta. “They say I was friends with somebody he was cheating with, none of that stuff is true. I am friends with one of the mothers of one of Future’s children, but it’s the mom that you never see, you never hear, that Ciara also has a good relationship with. So a lot of the stuff you read is very untrue. Nothing that happened with us had anything to do with him.”

Actually, the mom and wife refused to point to one particular issue as the cause of their broken 20-year friendship. She did, however, reveal that for years, they failed to properly address problems they had with one another. The singer explains:

“We were very close. My brother and her were childhood friends. I looked at her like a sister. At the end of the day, I don’t know how all these different stories got misconstrued and put out. I’ve read all kind of stuff that is absolutely not true. She and I did have a disagreement. We both had issues with each other. When you have been friends for a long time, almost two decades, and you let things fester, and you don’t talk about them, it can cause a breakdown that other people may not understand.”

Monica also refused to speak poorly of the “Goodies” singer.

“I love her. I’m not going to build somebody up to break them down no matter what has taken place. And If I ever I did anything that hurt or bothered her it was never intentional because my love is always from a sincere place,” she said. “I love her beyond a place of the media or the mess. You can look at me and tell that I’m not the friend who is going to know something and not let you know.”

As you may recall, fans first became hip to the fallout between Monica and Ci after the “Just Right For Me” singer posted a Throwback Thursday photo on Instagram from her wedding day and tagged multiple guests, but failed to tag Ciara, who was part of the bridal party.
