Teach The Babies: 15 Famous Mentors & Mentees We Love

Whitney Houston Mentored Monica

The soul crooning Atlanta mom Monica became a legend at a young age and she was actually mentored by another pretty famous singer: Whitney Houston. Here’s what she had to say about the relationship.

“I look back over many, many years of my life, and Whitney wasn’t the type of person that would call and ask if I was OK; she would actually fly to me. She would come looking for me, she would sit with me. She prepared me and always reminded me to never lose sight of who I was, and I think she could be a testament to that because of what she experienced,” Monica said.

Oprah Mentors Lindsay Lohan

Perhaps this is the secret as to why despite screwing up repeatedly Lohan still works to this day.

Late last year the media mogul started  mentoring the most troubled starlet and part of the mentoring  includes an eight part docu-series that follows the “Mean Girls” star as she adjusts to life in New York City post rehab.

Hmm. Interesting.

P. Diddy  Takes In Usher

P. Diddy became Usher’s mentor  when he was just  14 and  Usher went to New York to work with P. Diddy and the head of Bad Boy at the time. And this is how that went:

Usher says he was taken to lavish  parties where drugs and women were easily available. “Puffy’s idea was to make me a bit rougher, with more edge,” Usher said.  Oh so lovely.

Steven Spielberg Mentors Goddaughter Drew Barrymore

Steven Speilberg is Drew Barrymore’s godfather and mentor. He directed the tiny starlet in “E.T. the Extra Terrestrial” when she was only six years old and continues to dish out acting advice until this day.

Drew says  “Steven told me, ‘Don’t act your characters. Be your characters!”

Michelle Obama Mentored Barack Obama

Who doesn’t love this story? As a young associate at a Chicago law firm she was asked to show Barack Obama, a new hire fresh out of Harvard, the ropes.

Today the First Lady  has launched a program pairing local high-school girls with successful female leaders, including herself.

Elton John Mentors Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga and Elton John are extremely close. She counts him as her mentor and he has made her the godmother to his two young sons. Here’s what Elton had to say about Gaga:

“She’s a great role model, she’s young, [and] she’s been a great godmother to Zachary. We’re all bonkers in this business, but we’re human beings at the same time,” John said.

Usher Mentors Justin Bieber

Usher – who was mentored by P. Diddy when he was a teenager – has been mentoring Justin Bieber since the young singer’s career began, but chose to give him different advice from what he received.

“Hip-hop, sex, drugs and alcohol wouldn’t really work for Justin’s image. He’s headed in the right direction. I’ve told him to do everything I wouldn’t do,” Usher said.

Jay Z Signs & Mentors Rihanna

Jay Z has been Rihanna’s mentor since he signed her to Def Jam Records in 2004 and with her epic rise we would say he’s doing a great job!

It’s been said that the rap star is quite protective of his protégé and he reportedly warned Chris Brown –after the physical altercation — that if he ever touched her again, he would ruin the “With You” singer’s career.
