It doesn’t matter if you are carrying your first child or your tenth (God bless you and your uterus if you are), there comes a time towards the end when you just don’t know when this baby is going to come out. I swear to goodness my child is sitting comfortable in my stomach with his legs up enjoying the comforts of a warm and toasty home–he just doesn’t seem to want to leave the womb! Do I have to send him an eviction notice or something?
Even though the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists redefined full-term as 39 weeks, there are still many of us (myself included) who are getting antsy to get our labor on. I’m sure you have probably heard whispers of natural ways to induce labor that can range from walking to using oils and climbing stairs. Granted, what works for one person may or may not work for someone else but you have to give people some credit for coming up with these ideas ’cause a few of them are a little out the box. Here are some ways that could induce labor that are interesting to say the least. Just please make sure you check with your doctor before you try any of these weird ways to induce labor.
Myth Or Magic Touch?: Weird Ways To Induce Labor
Drop that thang: Do you still like to dance? Are you able to squat? If so you might want to crank up the music and drop it like it’s hot! Adding additional pressure to your pelvis area is thought to work with gravity and assist when it comes to labor. If you are trying to get the process started who knows, a little dancing and popping might do the trick.
Nipple play: I kid you not! Supposedly nipple stimulation can help get the party started in the labor department, though I’m sure it might start something else as well.
Italian meal: Now I know most of us have heard of spicy foods but this one is pretty specific. Practical Parenting notes that eggplant parmigiana in particular has had a pretty decent track record of causing pregnant women to go into labor after consumption.
Acupressure: Not to be confused with acupuncture where you will have a bunch of needles placed in you, this form of alternative medicine simply targets the pressure points around your body via a sturdy massage. Just know this might not feel like the ones you get at a spa.
Pineapples – This isn’t a Kevin Hart punchline but an old wives tale that people still to this day swear by. Though pineapples can cause some heartburn in some pregnant women, its natural enzymes are thought to do wonders on the cervix thus speeding up the labor process.
Sexual marathon: Okay make sure your significant other doesn’t read this because heaven knows most of us aren’t in the mood for no sexual marathon. Now we all have heard about the correlation of sex and inducing labor though the question becomes how many times. Well ladies we might need to get our freak on a little more as you could possibly see better results if you do the do multiple times…in a day.
