Orgasms can ease cramps
Having sex on your period can ease your PMS symptoms. The muscle contractions of the uterus that occur during an orgasm can, “offer a soothing internal massage,” according to Everyday Health. This can relieve menstrual cramps.
Period sex can relieve PMS
Everyday Health also tells us that the endorphins released during orgasm can relieve symptoms of PMS like headaches, depression and irritability.
You’re more prone to getting STDs
While sex on your period offers many benefits, it is also riskier in the STD department. Everyday Health tells us that because the cervix opens up during menstruation, your body is more susceptible to bacteria getting in.
You’re more prone to passing on STDs
If you have a blood-borne STD, unfortunately, the nature of your period (you’re bleeding, after all) makes it much easier for you to pass that on to a partner as well.
That extends to oral
It’s fine to have someone perform oral on you while you’re on your period. However, it will be easier for you to pass on a blood-borne STD to a partner, even without intercourse.
You may see clumps
The website Health warns that you that you may see some dark red or brown clumps on the sheets or towel you had period sex on, but it’s perfectly normal. What you’re seeing is older blood and cells from your uterine lining.
Or you may not see anything at all
Because sex can speed up the release of menstrual blood, some women don’t see any blood for a day or two after having intercourse. It hasn’t been pushed back inside. It was just pushed out during sex.
You may be hornier on your period
Some theories suggest that certain hormone levels increase during menstruation that make women feel more aroused. This hasn’t been entirely proven yet, but if it rings true to you, then ride that feeling. Or man. Or whatever.
Your blood can serve as lubricant
Some women find period sex even more enjoyable than regular sex because the blood serves as a great lubricant.
Sex can speed up blood flow
Some women believe that having sex on their period makes them bleed more, but this isn’t true. Some sexual activity can cause the uterus to release more blood and tissue at once, but it doesn’t generate more blood than normal.
Your partner probably wants to have period sex
Don’t be quick to assume your partner doesn’t want to have sex with you when you’re on your period. According to reports, it’s usually the person who is menstruating who stops the sex and not her partner.
Period sex is a “thing”
According to New York Mag, there is a whole group of men out there who not only are okay with period sex but seek it out. Apparently, they find it edgy or something like that.
Men like the smell
Well, not all men, but New York Mag mentioned that some men admitted that they loved the smell of period blood.
These positions are least messy
Anything that involves you on top will be messiest—thanks to gravity. Laying on your side or your back are good options, but the best is one where your legs are up in the air (maybe hooked around his neck). The blood flows downward, according to Women’s Health.
There are a lot of terms guys use for it
Like “getting blood on your sword,” “receiving your red wings” and many more too graphic to post here. You can see them on Reddit.
