More and more women are joining team natural because they are starting to see the kinds of lasting damage chemicals can do to their hair. Plus, chemical-free locks gives women the versatility to wear their hair curly one week and straight the next. You may not have been aware, but these famous women are also down with #teamnatural.

Michelle Obama

Did you know that First Lady Michelle Obama is team natural? Celebrity stylist Johnny Wright made the revelation during an interview with The Root recently. FLOTUS has steered clear of chemicals in her hair for years now and Wright gets that famous bob bone straight with a flat iron. Would we ever see the First Lady rocking a curly ‘fro in public? “I don’t know. Maybe on vacation she will,” said Wright. “She is 100 percent natural now. It is a possibility.”

Gabrielle Union

Many actresses pull out all of the stops when it comes to Oscar night but for Gabrielle Union she pulled out the weave. The “Being Mary Jane” star hit up last year’s Vanity Fair red carpet sporting her natural hair. Union’s ‘do was flipped, curled and tied into a knot at the back of her head and it also included an ornate bump at the crown of her head. She gave her Instagram followers a look behind the scenes at the process. “I took my weave out and got creative with my natural hair… @larryjarahsims is a master magician,” she wrote in the caption.

Toya Carter-Wright

Toya-Carter Wright may be the self-professed queen of weave but underneath all of that fake hair are her own chemical-free tresses. Several years ago, she explained why she left the chemicals alone. “I started pressing it a lot in the past few years, and I noticed that the heat plus the chemicals was killing my hair, so I gave up the relaxers,” she said. “The transition period was tough and I ended up cutting it all off. I cut it off into a mohawk style. It was too short to do anything with, so I put a weave in it to help it grow out.”

Rihanna

Rihanna changes her hair up like she’s in the witness protection program but underneath all of the colorful wigs and bright weaves, the “BBHMM” singer keeps her real hair underneath natural and she’s stepped out in public sporting her carefree locks before. She also graced the cover of “Glamour” magazine’s November 2013 issue wig and weave free, scoring one for team natural.

Angela Simmons

A few years ago, Angela Simmons showed off a picture of her real hair and it ended up going viral. Few people knew how long and thick her hair really was. The reality star regularly wears weaves and rocking all of that store bought hair has helped her own to grow. “If I had to pinpoint the length and health of my hair to one thing, I would say it’s due to protective styling,” Simmons revealed in one of her blogs.

Taraji P. Henson

As if we didn’t love Taraji P. Henson enough, the “Empire” star showed off what’s been hiding underneath those wigs and weaves and to our surprise, she has a head full of thick and healthy hair that she keeps natural. While getting ready for the Golden Globes, Henson tweeted a photo of her long, flowing mane before her hair stylist straightened it out.

Brandy

If there is one thing Brandy is known for, it is for her many, many hairstyles. She’s rocked braids for the longest and has switched over to weaves but last year, Brandy was all too giddy to show off her cute, curly afro. She had been rocking Marley twists for a few weeks and took them out to create that new ‘do, which was heat free. Brandy showed off her hair on social media with the help of some lyrics from Kelis’ “Milkshake.” “My #fro looks better than yours,” Brandy wrote. “I can teach you but I’ma have to charge!”

Blac Chyna

Blac Chyna doesn’t mind sharing her personal life on social media and underneath all of the colorful wigs and weaves, she showed off her real hair. The former exotic dancer and single mother started taking hair vitamins and chronicled the growth on IG. Blac Chyna posted photos of her hair hanging all the way down her back. “I do not have a perm,” she wrote in the caption. “My hair is all natural. I didn’t completely flat iron it because I don’t wanna put too much heat to my hair.”

Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae is known for her flawless style just as much as she’s known for her music. You can always catch the “Tightrope” singer decked out in black and white clothes and her natural hair perfectly coiffed in one hairstyle or another. “I’ve been natural for many years now,” Monae revealed to “Essence” magazine. “I’m an ideas type of girl, and being natural allows me to have more versatility with natural hair. Hair is about options and showing diversity.” Although she prefers not to fuss over her hair too much, when Monae is on the road touring she tends to be more careful with her hair and will wear more hats.

Yandy Smith

Ever since joining Vh1’s “Love & Hip Hop,” Yandy Smith’s life has been an open book and she continued to share when she first showed off her natural tresses on Instagram a couple years ago in a series of photos. “I finally took down my weave and I’m all natural,” Smith wrote in the caption before giving a word of advice. “I’m loving my real hair right now! Always wrap your hair with a silk scarf prior to bed to help prevent split ends and maintain that glossy look.”

Lil Mama

Lil Mama was proud to rock her natural ‘fro and shared a photo of her hair on Twitter but unfortunately she was dragged through the mud and clowned mercilessly on social media. A few months later, the “Lip Gloss” rapper opened up and showed sympathy for those who mocked her. “I posted the picture of my hair and people were like ‘Omg you look like a shocked slave!’ I didn’t get one comment from a white person about my hair,” she said in an interview. “All of them came from the sisters that had these bullsh** helmet weaves looking like a fake a** Nicki Minaj. They don’t know who they are. And the people they’re looking to for guidance don’t know who they are either, which sucks.”

Keke Palmer

Keke Palmer practically grew up in Hollywood so we’re used to seeing her but several years ago was the first time the “Akeelah and the Bee” star revealed her natural hair. Palmer showed off her thick and full mane on Twitter with the caption, “My hair!” A year later Palmer was showing off a new hairdo on social media. This time she chopped off most of her hair and sported a cute pixie cut that framed her face.

Raven-Symone

In 2011, Raven-Symone shed some pounds and debuted a slimmer figure. She lost a little bit more weight when she ditched the wigs and weaves and stepped out rocking her natural hair. And it turns out, she’s a lot more au natural when she’s off of the clock. “I don’t feel like the person that people see on TV when I rock my natural hair,” she said. “And it’s not that I don’t love it, I so love it! I wear it out a lot. It’s really mine, mine, and mine alone.”
