Guy Uses Crowdfunding To “Save” His Relationship From Spring Break In Miami

March 16, 2015  |

I’m always amused when I hear about the fun, creative and sometimes bizarre reasons that people use crowdfunding, but this one takes the cake.

Azel Prather Jr.,25, recently took to popular fundraising site Go Fund Me in an attempt to scrape up $300 for a flight to Miami. Of course, he wouldn’t be the first person to utilize crowdfunding to finance a trip, but his reason for wanting to go on the trip is pretty bizarre. To keep it simple, he needs the ticket to save his relationship from the kryptonite that is spring break in Miami.

Prather’s 22-year-old girlfriend, Marissa, booked a trip to hit up the sunny city with her friends and he’s concerned that their relationship will fall apart if she goes without him. With that said, he intends to go babysit her. Literally. The problem, however, is that he has already exhausted his personal funds on other things.

His plea reads:

“Greetings people! As you know, spring break is fastly approaching and my youngin (pictured above) and her friends are going to Miami. If you know anything about Miami, you know that she shouldn’t go without a chaperone. I need to get there to be with her and share this joyous time but my funds have been exhausted.

We have a great thing going and I would hate to see it go down the drain for a little sand and sun. If you can find it in your heart to donate ANYTHING to help save my relationship I would greatly appreciate it. I just need a round trip flight.

I will be staying wherever she lays her head, eating whatever she eats, and overseeing all parties and fun activity for the duration of the trip. I thank you in advance. Please fellas, I love her.”

According to the Washington Post, the young lovers have been together for a year and a half. Prather, who works in marketing but has aspirations of being a comedian, joked that while he’s pretty secure in his relationship, he’s aware of how things go down in Miami, which he referred to as every boyfriend’s “worst nightmare.”

“If I had to pick one place for my girlfriend not to go, Miami would be it!” he told the publication.

Prather has already exceeded his goal of $300 so we’re guessing this means his relationship is safe—for now.
