We all come from somewhere. These celebrities who survived child abuse didn’t just thrive. They went on to share their stories to help others overcome their pasts.
Mary J. Blige
Mary J. Blige says that the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of a family friend permanently changed her life:
“That thing followed me all my life. The shame of thinking my molestation was my fault – it led me to believe I wasn’t worth anything.”
But Mary said her music, her manager P. Diddy and her husband Kendu helped her find the strength that she needed to find her self esteem again.
Queen Latifah
Queen Latifah opened up to Essence magazine about her experience with sexual abuse at the hands of a teenage babysitter:
“He violated me. I never told anybody; I just buried it as deeply as I could and kept people at an arm’s distance.
I never really let a person get too close to me. I could have been married years ago, but I had a commitment issue.”
