Sex addiction is a very real thing but some celebs have used the addiction as a lame excuse for sleeping around. Here are some famous people who have claimed to have an addiction to sex.
WENNTiger Woods
Tiger Woods was the number one golfer in the world but all of that came crashing down when his wife Elin found out about his extramarital affairs. More than a few women came out of the woodwork and claimed to have slept with Woods. The billionaire golfer admitted to his wrongdoings and said he was addicted to sex. Woods entered rehab in hopes of saving his marriage but the mother of his two children filed for divorce anyway.
David Duchovny
On “Californication,” David Duchovny played a lovable but womanizing aging author who regularly slept with women half his age. In real life, Duchovny claimed to have an addiction to sex and it caused a major problem in his marriage to Tea Leoni. The “X Files” star briefly split from Leoni in 2008 and entered rehab for help. The couple reunited and tried to work through their problems but they split again in 2011. Their divorce was finalized last summer.
Dean McDermott
The old adage goes, “How you get him is how you lose him” and Tori Spelling has been worried about losing husband Dean McDermott for some time. He cheated on his then-wife Mary Jo Eustache with Spelling and they eventually left their respective mates to be together. But McDermott found himself in hot water and his marriage to Spelling on shaky ground after he cheated on her. McDermott blamed his behavior on a sex addiction and voluntarily checked himself into a rehab facility last year to save their marriage.
Kanye West
If anyone has listened to Kanye West’s music then they know he’s bragged about his lovemaking skills. West credits his drive and massive success to a sex addiction that he’s claimed to have since a young age. “People ask me a lot about my drive,” he said to “Detail” magazine. “I think it comes from, like, having a sexual addiction at a really young age. Look at the drive that people have to get sex—to dress like this and get a haircut and be in the club in the freezing cold at 3 a.m., the places they go to pick up a girl. If you can focus the energy into something valuable, put that into work ethic.”
Russell Brand
Russell Brand has had to battle several addictions. In addition to coming to terms with his addictions to heroin, cocaine and alcohol, the British comedian also had a major problem with sex. In 2005, the “Get Him To The Greek” star came to terms with his sex compulsion and sought treatment at a Philadelphia medical treatment center. Brand overcame his drug and substance addiction several years earlier and last month he tweeted he was celebrating 12 years of sobriety.
Amber Smith
Model Amber Smith has appeared on two reality shows seeking help for her addictions. She was a cast member on the second season of VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab” after struggling for 16 years with opiates and alcohol. The “Sports Illustrated” swimwear model also asked Dr. Drew Pinksy for help with an addiction to sex in 2009 when she appeared on “Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew.” “I wake up every day, and I go boy hunting to get a hit of the guy,” Smith said on the show. “I feel like I’m falling apart. This is a thousand times more fearful than drug rehab.”
Nicole Narain
Nicole Narain first popped up starring in music videos including LL Cool J’s “Luv You Better” and Fabolous’ “Baby.” But it was her appearance in a sex tape with Hollywood hunk Colin Farrell that first gave her 15 minutes of fame. The “Minority Report” star successfully sued Narain to block the sale of the sex tape but it was leaked online anyway. Narain went on “Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew” for help with her addiction, which included compulsive masturbation.
Jesse James
Jesse James was the most hated man in America when reports surfaced that he had been unfaithful to his wife Sandra Bullock. James copped to having a sex addiction and went to rehab seeking help in hopes that it would save his marriage but the Oscar winning actress wasn’t buying it. James moved on to Kat Von D but he couldn’t stay faithful to her either. Von D claimed that James slept with 19 women during their relationship. “I don’t think I have a sex addiction where I’m running around trying to have sex with everyone and I can’t stop,” he told ABC in 2010.
Calum Best
British model and television personality Calum revealed in 2007 that he had been struggling with an addiction to sex. Best, probably most well known here in the U.S. for his relationship with ex-girlfriend Lindsay Lohan, admitted that he had several vices and one of them was alcohol, just like his legendary soccer playing father George Best. “I go out and get drunk, I get high on cocaine and I do stupid debauched things with the wrong women,” Best confessed in an interview. “I don’t have to be like Dad, but I feel his blood running through my veins. I need to sort out my problems before it’s too late.”
Charlie Sheen
Charlie Sheen’s hard-partying ways are legendary. The self-proclaimed Hollywood bad boy has never been shy about his penchant for cocaine and prostitutes. He infamously trashed his Manhattan four-star hotel room hopped up on a coke binge and the NYPD found a scared prostitute cowering in his bathroom hiding out for safety. Dr. Oz asked Sheen if he had an addiction to sex and the “Anger Management” star replied, “Sure. [But] I don’t know what the definition of it is.”
Rob Lowe
Although Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton are famous because of their sex tapes, Rob Lowe was one of the first celebs to have a sex tape leak. Lowe entered rehab in the late 80’s soon after the tape emerged. The “Parks & Rec” star sought help for his addictions to sex and cocaine. In his memoir “Stories I Only Tell My Friends,” Lowe admitted that there was a time in his life where he never went more than 30 hours without sex.
Anthony Kiedis
Anthony Kiedis kicked his addiction to substance abuse a long time ago but after he found porn online, he soon got caught up in another addiction. “When I finally got a computer, I discovered this limitless world of pornography,” he told “Blender” magazine in 2007. “I realized the feeling that I was having was like the feeling that I used to get when I’d go score drugs. I actually had to make a commitment to myself to stop.”
