Last summer, we told you that Ne-Yo announced his breakup from fiancée, Monyetta Shaw, via Instagram.
“Though fate had decided to split our romantic paths, know that I will ALWAYS love you. Forever your partner. Forever your friend. Forever my miracle,” the image read. “I’ll always be there. ALWAYS.@incognemo Forever my miracle,” he added.
Although many were under the impression that Ne-Yo broke up with the mother of his two children via the social networking site, Monyetta says that the actual breakup went down over the phone.
“We broke up amongst ourselves, and it happened to be on the phone,” she told Sister 2 Sister. “He did and it stung a little; however, he was at home the week after and we sat down and discussed everything. It wasn’t crazy, fussing and fighting type thing. We’re two adults, and we handle ourselves in that way. Yes, emotions were high. I didn’t see it coming, but people change.”
As for the Instagram post, Monyetta says that she advised her ex-fiancé against it.
“We broke everything off two months before the infamous Instagram post,” she continued. “We talked about it and I told him, ‘I think it’s a great idea to just get your publicist, just come out with a statement. That will be the classy way to do it.’ For whatever reason, he chose to do it his way BET weekend and the world went crazy,” she said.
Monyetta went on to say that while she’s happy Ne-Yo just came out and said that he’s not ready for a monogamous relationship, she doesn’t really understand it.
“All I know is marriage. My mom and dad, they’ve been together for 43 years. That’s all I know. I will say I was crushed by it, but hey, I do believe everything happens for a reason, and I’m moving through this thing.”
