In the event that you’ve been wondering what Erykah Badu has been up to—in addition to being an ambassador for Givenchy, doling out sex advice on social networks and raising her three beautiful kids—she’s been continuing her work as a certified doula.
“I’ve always had a mothering nature. But I didn’t plan on becoming a doula. I just wanted to care for my family and friends,” she told People back in 2011. “When I saw the baby, I cried. I knew what I was supposed to do with my life.”
The mother of three further opened up about her decision to become a doula in the new issue of Mantra Magazine.
“A doula is an empty vessel,” she explained “Whatever is required of us, we are present—for the mother, for the father, for the family.”
Interestingly, she discussed being a doula for lives first entering the world and those who are making an exit. The 43-year-old singer also discussed sitting “by the bedsides of people who are dying.” Erkyah went on to touch on the things that make her happy.
“My medicine is being in love you know, I’m in love. And when I’m in love I glow, and my face is happy, and my heart is light and happy. And my children are happy.”
Love her!
