Lean on Me is an American classic. No discussion, no debate. It’s timeless. And if you’ve seen the movie a fair amount of times, you remember the scene where Principal Joe Clark busts into the boy’s restroom and demands that the high schoolers sing the school song “Fair Eastside High,” with conviction, right there in front of the urinals.

It was beautiful, highlights a lovely harmonic blend and a nice vocal range when it’s sung as a quintet. And since it’s so beautiful, it has been imitated by men, women boys and girls alike across the black community.

And I’m sure there have been some pretty good ones. But honey, you ain’t never, and I do mean never, seen anyone cover “Fair Eastside” quite like this.

Lawrence Young, a vocalist and keyboardist in Los Angeles California sings not one, not two but all four parts of the school song in addition to lead vocal. And it is perfection. I know some of y’all swear your second cousin on your dad’s side can sang but check out Mr. Young and tell me he’s not killing, slaying and murking thee entire game singing all these parts. This right here is crazy talent.
