MadameNoire Featured Video

Though it’s been on YouTube for almost three years now, Tracy Clayton over at BuzzFeed  dug up video of Tisha Campbell and Duane Martin’s wedding from 1996. And we have to pass it along. Not just because Tisha and Duane are one of the few Hollywood couples who’ve been able to make it work for years, not just because we love weddings but mostly because this video is almost like a time capsule. It’s the perfect depiction of who and what were hot and fresh in black pop culture in the ’90’s.

There’s the frosty lipstick and heavy lip liner black women swore by back then. Every black starlet who was poppin’ back then was in attendance–or in the actual wedding party–including:

Will Smith– who had just wrapped “Fresh Prince” before he became the powerhouse that we know him to be today. He and Jada would get married the next year.

Kadeem Hardison– who had finished “A Different World” three years earlier.

Martin Lawrence– Tisha’s current co-star–the show would end the following year.

Tasha and her twin Sidra Smith— who literally look like Black Barbie dolls as Jada notes.

Jada Pinkett Smith– who was starring in Set It Off and The Nutty Professor that year

and of course Tisha’s on and off screen friend Tichina Arnold. We have to mention the bounce and thickness of Tichina’s hair here. It’s flawless.

The soundtrack to the video features ’90’s and really all time classics like Whitney Houston’s “Every Woman,” Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff’s “Summertime” and Brian Mcknight’s “Never Felt This Way.” Which is quite hilarious considering that’s the song McKnight played when Martin proposed to Gina on the show.

I can’t tell you all of the happy feelings and warm fuzzies I experienced watching this video, like Tisha was my first cousin or something. But it is beautiful and if you’re looking for a nostalgic pick me up, this is what you need in your life.
