Sometimes you don’t have common friends to get the scoop on whether or not a guy is interested in you, and you can’t count on seeing him again by coincidence—you have to figure out right now if he’s attracted to you, and if you can expect a good reaction when you hand him your phone number. Here’s are the signs a guy is into you immediately.
He asks you personal questions
Guys know that this makes a woman feel closer to them, so men who are taken or uninterested intentionally keep conversation to light topics like work or pop culture. If a guy asks you personal questions, he wants you to know he’s interested.
He wants to please you
Throughout the night, he loops around the party or bar to ask if you need a drink, or to let you know a seat opened up if you want to rest your feet, or just to ask how you’re doing—and it’s not his party.
He compliments you
Again, a taken or uninterested guy will make sure not to compliment you. If a guy isn’t interested, he will never tell you that you have a great smile or that every guy in the room is looking at you.
He can’t stop smiling
Uninterested and taken guys will nod a lot, and have a quizzical, curious look on their face when you’re talking. That’s their way of saying, “This is just a friendly conversation.” But if a guy is interested in you, he’ll have a big grin on your face when you’re talking, even if what you’re saying isn’t that interesting.
He deflects interruptions
If a caterer offers him an appetizer, he quickly says, “I’m good thanks” and turns right back to you. You see him silence the ringer on his phone when he gets a call, but he never takes his eyes off you to do it. Somebody comes over to say hi to him, and he gives them a quick, “Hey how’s it going?” and gets right back to you.
His eyes and pupils widen
When a guy is into you, he can’t help but look into your eyes. His eyes will widen, and usually so will his pupils. Uninterested or unavailable guys will make sure to look away, or sip their drink at appropriate increments of time to disengage.
In a group, he’s zoned in on you
If you’re standing in a group, he noticeably doesn’t engage in the conversation the group is having, but speaks directly to you, trying to keep a one-on-one conversation going.
He comes to tell you about something fun or amusing
He comes to tell you there’s a photo booth at the party, or someone is doing something hilarious, or there’s only one cupcake left so you better grab it fast.
He’s protective of you
When he sees a server carrying a full tray of drinks, he touches your shoulder and says, “Look out.” Or when he sees a bar fight about to break out, he says, “Let’s go over here” and directs you to a quieter area.
He asks when he’ll see you again
This is a dead giveaway! An uninterested or unavailable man would never ask this—he knows it would be so misleading. If a man asks you this, he is trying to drive the point home that he’s into you.
He tries to find out about your relationship status
He asks you if you’ve taken any recent vacations and with whom, or who you’ll be spending the holidays with, or he’ll talk about funny stories of single life to see if you’ll share some, too.
He asks you to go with him somewhere
You’re at a dinner party and the host has called you all from the living room to the dining room; the guy asks, “Why don’t we sit together and keep this conversation going?” Or, when he wants to go to the bar to grab a drink, he suggests you come with him.
He asks to get in touch and gets in touch soon
A guy who asks for your number or to friend you on Facebook might just want to network or be friends. But a guy who does this and gets in touch with you within the next 48 hours is probably interested.
He gets embarrassed in front of you
If someone makes him look bad in front of you, he gets clearly annoyed and wants to clear up his reputation with you immediately.
