Real Housewives of DC

Season 1, Finale

Bravo

Deuces!

The most boring cast in the history of the “Real Housewives” franchise has taken a final bow.  I’m not sure if they will be back for another season(I can’t imagine they would be), but lets hope Bravo finds a more entertaining use for that hour.

Pretty much all 75 minutes of the finale are devoted to that White House state dinner incident that we are all too familiar with at this point. Not much new information really, but we are treated to color commentary by the Salahis’ fellow castmates. Stand in front of a mirror, clutch a string of pearls and gasp. That is basically the level of insight they offer.

Anything remotely interesting happens off camera and is told in the updates that appear on the screen. Stacie finally finds her dad. Cat and her husband divorce. Mary makes her grown daughter live on her own. Blah, blah, blah.

Oh and why do they wear ballgowns for the one on one interviews? Where are they going?

Bravo, don’t bring this mess back on the air. Mmmkay? Thanks.

Real Housewives of Atlanta

Season 3, Episode 1

Bravo

Heeeey!

The Georgia peaches are back for season three of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Lisa Wu was kicked off for being too boring, so we have a couple new cast members, Phaedra and Cythnia (who we won’t really meet until episode two). The Atlanta cast is the most dramatic of the franchise and the premiere episode of the new season is wall to wall tomfoolery.

The highlight of the show is when NeNe is making fun of Dwight’s obvious nose job. That is too funny because NeNe has her old nose during the show’s taping but does in the one on one interview with her new nose.  I liked her old nose better. What do you think?

Dwight is trying to get more (nose) face time on the show, so he’s stirring the pot by telling folks he put $30,000 into Sheree’s fashion show (I don’t believe that for one second) and that NeNe’s husband Greg borrowed $10,000 from him and hasn’t paid him back. I could believe the action, but not the amount.

Is it just me or is Greg extraordinarily shady? Dwight might be exaggerating on the amount of money involved in this so called “investment” or whatever, but Greg’s answers to NeNe’s questions are not reassuring.  Greg is supposedly a real estate guy.  What kind of investment did he convince Dwight to go into for $500 that has a $200 profit?  It makes no sense whatsoever and I’m going to assume that NeNe had more questions that what is shown in that exchange. Months ago, probably during taping of this season, a recording of Greg came out saying some rather unflattering things about his wife and revealing some significant financial issues. I guess we’ll ge to that part in the next episode or two.

Anywho, NeNe acts the fool in public and literally backs Dwight up against a wall. Kinda sad to see her turn into this character. NeNe was my favorite housewife during the first season. She was fun, loud and full of laughter. Now she’s a big bully who courts drama.

As for the other “housewives:” Sheree wants to be an actress.  Kim will still do or say absolutely anything for attention. Kandi is dating an NFL player who the blogs say lives with the mother of his new baby. High powered attorney Phaedra is pregnant, married to a Hot ex-con and seems to have an opinion on everything.  Former model Cynthia is having anxiety about her upcoming wedding.

Who’s your favorite Atlanta housewife?

Detroit 187

Season 1, Episode 3

ABC

There’s My City

This is my favorite episode of “Detroit 187” so far, hands down.  The first two episodes were a little rocky, which is to be expected for a new show and especially for a show that switched from documentary style to a more traditional set up.

In this episode we see more of the city.  We get to see those beautiful old homes in various states of disrepair that dot much of Detroit’s landscape.  Did you see those doors? The molding! The floors!  Such beauty.  Brush Park and Michigan Central station provide notable backdrops for much of the episode.

Det Fitch and a recovering Det Washington team up to investigate what on the surface appears to be a standard breaking and entering gone wrong. Of course upon further review, the story goes deeper than that. The storyline brings in urban planning issues (Shrinkage!), developer greed, media responsibility and the complexities of community activism.  We’re starting to get some layers folks. I love it.

There’s another storyline about a murder and a car, but it’s not that interesting.  Oh and one of the detectives threatens a suspect with the death penalty. There is no death penalty in Michigan. I know it’s fiction and it doesn’t have to be spot on with everything, but I’m sayin.

The show is getting better, finding its stride. I’m looking forward to next week’s episode and finding out more about Det Fitch’s New York secrets and how this evil developer angle will play out.

Do you think the show is getting better?
