You’ve heard the warnings – sulfates are bad for your hair. They strip it of its natural oils and can leave it dry and brittle. Well, what’s a girl to do? Many have turned to co-washing with traditional conditioners as a way of keeping their manes clean and groomed, but some still feel a little odd about doing this. Thankfully there’s a happy medium in the form of cleansing creams and conditioners that have all the good ingredients from shampoos without the harsh detergents. These have been proven to get rid of scalp buildup, dirt and other grimy things that can cling to your strands.
The first time I used the KeraCare Cleansing Cream was actually an accident. I was visiting someone and of course forgot my shampoo at home. It was the only thing in the shower so I decided to give it a try. I am now obsessed. It left my hair feeling silky, clean and restored its moisture. This is also one of the few shampoos out there that incorporates amla, neem and shikakai. Avlon Industries, which has been around since 1984, created KeraCare but like many established companies they decided to branch out into natural territory. They recently launched the KeraCare Natural Textures line, which this product is a part of. The only downside of the cleansing cream is that it is difficult to find on the ground. I lucked out and discovered that some Ulta Stores do carry it, but it’s probably easier to purchase from the KeraCare online shop.
The Blended Beauty Cleansing Conditioner is marketed toward those with curly hair, but the ingredients are really great for all types. Witch hazel is incorporated into its formula to really get tresses clean by helping to remove any buildup on the scalp. It also has grapeseed oil, keratin, rosemary extract and chamomile for strong and moisturized strands. It leaves hair incredibly smooth and claims to promote growth, so if you’re looking for long locks definitely give this a go.

Curl Junkie has been a hit since 2006 when their first product was born. The Daily Fix Cleansing Conditioner continues the tradition by providing great, nourishing, all-natural ingredients while simultaneously renewing the scalp and cleaning every strand. This conditioner claims to remove mineral deposits from hard water and even the heaviest of silicones, so if you’re one for loads of products to keep your hair, but don’t want to use harsh detergents, this may be the one for you.
Wen is another company that’s become increasingly popular as of late and it’s no wonder. With products like the Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner, they just really can’t go wrong. This conditioner uses glycerin, chamomile extract, cherry bark, rosemary extract, panthenol and sweet almond oil to moisturize, strengthen, soften and tone hair resulting in a reduction in split ends and better manageability.
Like cleansing conditioners, but not the prices? L’Oreal has one of the best on the market for only $6.99. As part of their EverCrème Sulfate-Free Moisture System, their cleansing conditioner offers what they refer to as “triple action hydration” through 1/4 cleanser and 3/4 moisture. The other great thing is that it has Omega-3 and 6, essential fatty acids that deliver nutrients and promote hair growth.
