After a devastating breakup with a lover, some look for signs that he still cares. Despite the insistence of friends that he doesn’t, the wounded lover clings to every move he makes after the breakup—hoping secretly that the love connection lives on.
“Ooo! He blinked twice,” the wounded will think to themselves. “That must mean he still loves me, and he’ll come back one day.”
Hey. Maybe he will. Maybe he won’t. Such is the philosophy that defines our relationship with Lauryn Hill.
Maybe she’ll return to us and we can access her like we did before.
We hope so much that it’s the case of the former (that Lauryn Hill is coming back), that we hawk her every move.
For example, according to MTV.com:
Lauryn Hill snuck back onto the Billboard charts for the first time in 10 years this week as the former Fugees singer’s “Repercussions” landed at #94 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
See? She hasn’t even announced yet that she wants her fans back as much as they want her, nor has she officially released a single, an E.P. or L.P., yet fans are already putting her on Billboard.
It’s fair to say, she’s captivated our entire generation that deeply with her music and she’s given us more love than any other hip-hop artist ever could. But, are Lauryn Hill fans just a little too eager to pull her out of hiding?
Should we be so easily convinced by any and every hint of her return? Or, should we play a little hard to get, making Lauryn Hill burst out with a #1 single to win us back? 😉
