What happens After the Credits?

The question that often lingers after a powerful documentary is simple: What happens next?

Fox wanted TIME II to answer that. “I wanted to be able to show people…after that man got home, what did that look like?” she said. “What we did with our own freedom was the theme of this entire movie: the understanding that to be free is to free others.”

Her husband Rob, who now holds a B.A. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and has helped pass legislation in Louisiana, emphasized legacy. “Our forefathers, our ancestors fought,” he said. “And so what I’m hopeful for as a legacy or as a point of remembrance is that…we are fighters. And we do win.”

Fox echoed that sentiment. “What I saw that was not righteous in my lifetime, I worked to address it…And I addressed it so poignantly that people know I lived.”

An Important Archive

From the moment Fox picked up the camera in the 1990s, she was resisting. “When Rob got sentenced to 60 years in prison, I began filming because the state had sanctioned him to die,” she recalled. “My aim then was: all of the moments they said he was gonna miss, my form of resistance was documenting the archive.”

She filmed kindergarten graduations. She used her last $20 to buy videotapes instead of gas. She kept the camera on.

She calls it her sacred duty. Nearly 30 years later, the archive lives on.

Their new campaign includes a clemency toolkit, legal education guides, and a public pledge to continue the fight against incarceration. A portion of the film’s proceeds will support the Amistad Research Center, which preserves cultural records.

Unfinished Business

TIME II: Unfinished Business doesn’t just revisit the pain, but also reframes the purpose. In the words of Assata Shakur, which the couple recites weekly at their nonprofit: “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win.”
