As I was cruising around last night, I ran across a clip from Ashanti and Nelly’s new reality show, We Belong Together. And like every other Apple-Bottom-jeaned millennial, I watched it. And yes, it was that episode. The one where Nelly flat out refuses to change dirty diapers, often literally leaving Ashanti hanging in this area.
His infamous quote is:
Baby, I said I’d give you the world. I just ain’t changing no diaper.
And digging his heels in, he told Ashanti that she was on full-time solo-dolo Mommy duty until the kid could walk and talk:
Until he can say, ‘I’m hungry,’ until he can say, ‘I need to use the bathroom,’ it’s gonna be a lot in your lap.

Now I should mention that when I saw this clip, it was reposted by a dating and marriage coach I follow. Her take was: Ladies, be careful of the type of “helpmate” you marry. And the comments were spicy! Many were kinda split. Some felt that she had made the wrong choice. That she was a “married single mother.” Some felt Nelly is 50, a grandfather and adult dad, and he had done his part. Others questioned whether he was really on daddy duty. Others were counting the days til their divorce, and on and on it went.
As for my take? You’ve got two millionaires, a newborn, an exhausted mom, and a dad who doesn’t want to pull a night shift. Hire a night nanny.
Done.
Astrologically and intuitively speaking, I definitely noticed some interesting dynamics between these two beautifully melanated stars, so I decided to take a look. And in complete transparency, I don’t think a single soul who wants their marriage to work should do reality TV.
It’s simply Foolish…
But anyhow, let’s dive in and see what the cosmos and the cards have to say…I was able to pull both Ashanti and Nelly’s astrological charts from what I’ve been told is a reliable source. (Astro Charts: https://astro-charts.com/persons/) *Note, we make no guarantees that these charts are 100% accurate outside of their Sun Signs.
Here’s the quick breakdown of what I’m looking at:
I went beyond their Sun signs to their Moon (how they feel emotionally), their Mercury (how they think), their Mars (how they motivate, anger, etc), and of course their Venus sign (their romantic endeavors, and love compatibility).
Here’s what’s in each of their astrological birth charts:
Ashanti’s Chart:
- Sun in Libra
- Moon in Sagittarius
- Mercury in Scorpio
- Venus in Virgo
- Mars in Sagittarius
Nelly’s Chart:
- Sun in Scorpio
- Moon in Gemini
- Mercury in Libra
- Venus in Scorpio
- Mars in Scorpio
Now, all of my fellow astrology enthusiasts will see the compatibility upfront here. Ashanti’s Mercury (how she thinks/where her intellect is) is in Scorpio, which is Nelly’s Sun Sign (how we move through the world, and our dominant traits), while Nelly’s Mercury is in Libra, which is Ashanti’s Sun Sign.
This is truly the start of a winning match because it reflects that they are highly compatible in terms of their egos and mental thinking. It also means they understand the shadow and sexual elements of Scorpio as well as the feminine and luxury aspects of Libra.
In short, they are likely to be very compatible, not just as lovers but also as friends, and possibly as business partners, which makes sense given that they reunited and got married years after first dating. They probably remained cool throughout the years, even as they went their separate ways.
When it comes to their Venus compatibility, it’s an interesting mix—that becomes a bed of steamy-earthy-sensual-mud. Think of their energetic exchange like having a mud bath by the ocean in Bali at a 10-star villa.
What do I mean?
