Melky Jean Honors Haitian Roots And Black Girl Joy With Saint Sauveur 1972 Rum - Page 2
When asked what vibe she’s bottling, Melky lit up:
“You know when you and your girls go out and someone asks what you’re celebrating? It’s like—we outside! We’re Black, we’re beautiful, and we’re living.”
The brand’s colorful merch reflects the Haitian flag, and she’s already been intentional with partnerships, including a Chicago-based Black woman designer for her label art.
“Chicago was founded by a Haitian,” she added. “I wanted everything to tell a story.”
A brand with a purpose is the flavor of this rum.
From Studio Sessions to CEO Moves
Even though she’s now behind the bar instead of the mic, music still fuels Melky’s mission.

“One of my favorite moments was being the voice of Sanaa Lathan in Disappearing Acts. She even studied my movements in the studio,” Melky shared.
Her brother Wyclef has always been supportive.
“When I told him about the brand, he said, ‘Whatever you put your head to, I know it’s going to win.’”
Melky’s advice to women looking to launch their own brands?
“The answer is in you. For so long I didn’t realize it, but everything I needed was already there.”
She’s even finishing her bartending license—and yes, she might be the one mixing your drinks at upcoming tastings.
“This isn’t just a product. It’s an experience. It’s the spirit of the spirit.”
