MadameNoire Featured Video

It’s the end of the week, madames! Time to check in with our editors and see what they’re loving and not so loving about the week:

China’s List

Music Love: Gnarls Barkley’s artistry is amazing, and while this

Web Show Love: Dr. Boyce Watkins is everywhere, including AOL’s Black Voices. I caught his web show on sisters in the Ivy League who excel in athletics! They’re book smart and fierce enough to hold down those b-ball courts? Hello? Fellas? This is sign #548,900 that we are, indeed, God’s gifts to you and the earth. Respect 😉

News Item Love: I have no clue why no one thought to view the full context of Shirley Sherrod’s video, as an MN editor stated here…(or maybe I do: folk in the older generation lack the instinct to question  YouTube and other technology, and folks in the younger generation lack the gumption to challenge media). Either way, my sincerest love to Shirley Sherrod, for her grace under fire. No pun on her getting fired.

Facebook Love: Despite whatever annoyances come with Facebook, they did reach 500 million accounts this week, and I simply can’t deny their swagger as a result. Besides, I like them better than Twitter. And what? #yeahIsaidit

Kweli’s List

Hair Love: I got to meet Dr. Miracle himself this week, as well as his lovely wife Kathleen, and the rest of the Dr. Miracles staff at an event to celebrate some of their new products. They’re a great group of people working passionately to deliver a great hair product. They’re looking forward to debuting their skin-care line in August, and new Follicle Healer Energizing System line of hair products. Check out their website: http://www.drmiracles.com/

Book Love: I haven’t finished it yet, but “Raised by the Mistress” is turning out to be another great summer read. The novel by Jamilah Creekmur, set for release on August 24, it tells the story of Creekmur’s mother and her “complicated melody of a relationship, as a Mistress.” Yes Madame, pre-order it on Amazon now.

Food Love: Chicken Adobo. Made this for the man this week, he love-did it 🙂 Delicious and easy recipe that I found at Food Gawker.com. Just the images alone on this site will make you want to cook everything!

Music Love: Messing around on Twitter, I found a link to this beautiful song by Robert Glasper called “All Matter.” Jazzy, funky, smooth: it’s the perfect background music for a lazy Sunday or the next dinner party you host. Love.

Goodies Love: I’m not even a huge sweets person, but I had the most fantastic cupcakes at a recent event. Cupcake Suite is a Manhattan based gourmet cupcake company that uses European-style butter to warm the pallet. Shout to the owner, Shakara Bridges and the Get ‘Em Girls for the delicious red velvet cupcakes! Mmm, mmm, good.

Magazine Love: Like any self-respecting wannabe socialite, I love good gossip. While I usually peruse the gossip blogs (wad up Bossip!) I received a copy of second issue of Juicy Magazine. Owned by XXL, the magazine is full of photos and stories about all the celebs we love to whisper about. The editors were super sweet, super glam ladies and I’m sure they’re indicative of how the magazine will do.

Get ‘Em Dress Love: Have no invitations to any weddings yet this summer, but I do intend on copping the

Art Love: I was very excited when I found out there was an independent film chronicling the life of  painter, Jean-Miguel Basquiat. His story and his work are truly unique and I’m excited to see the film soon.
