I’m going to start off script here a bit and point out that if you live in a city where your hair salon is currently open for business, that doesn’t mean you need to patronize just yet. That being said, , depending on which state you live in, I’m sure gray hairs, dark roots, and faded hair color are tempting you to to hit your stylist and see if she’s opened her doors for business. But before you put your health at risk over your hair, consider that there may be some solutions to your color woes that you can address right at home.
I know firsthand color is nothing to play with, so I definitely don’t recommend you bleach, lighten, or lift your hair at home. But if you’re dealing with any of the aforementioned hair struggles, you’d be surprised by the over-the-counter products that can carry you and your strands through until it’s safe to sit in the salon chair. Here are five of them.

To cover grays
First and foremost, consider embracing your grays like many celebs and influencers. However, if your response to silver-haired strands is simply “I cannot,” Olia is truly a safe bet. Formulated with 60% oils, Olia provides 100% gray coverage and leaves hair shinier and more hydrated than before coloring. The lack of ammonia also eliminates that “processed” smell some permanent colors give off during the application process.

To maintain color
Did you pick the wrong time to go blonde? Maintain your color for as long as possible with a shampoo and conditioner duo like L’Oréal Paris’ EverPure Brass Toning Purple Shampoo & Conditioner. The vegan sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner are formulated with Hibiscus and Purple Dye to hydrate and neutralize brassy yellow and orange tones in blonde, bleached, highlighted, and silver hair so your color stays vibrant longer.

To revive color
Instantly refresh both the color and health of your hair with Garnier Nutrisse’s Nourishing Color Cremes. The mask deposits color onto hair while avocado oil instantly restores softness, shine, and smoothness to strands that have been dried out and damaged by color. Available in five different shades, when you’re able to get back to the salon for another dose of color, apply one of these cremes 14 days following hair color application to extend and enhance color.

To change color
I’ve mentioned Creme of Nature Pure Honey Hydrating Color Boost before, but it’s truly the easiest product I’ve used to apply color. If your blonde has gotten duller than you like or you’re the type to switch your hair color up monthly and you’re itching for your next fix, Color Boost makes it simple. There’s no mixing, no tube snipping, no dripping, or no hard-drying formula. Plus it takes as little as 15 minutes for the Ammonia-Free Semi-Permanent Hair Color to take hold. With shades ranging from golden copper to indigo blue, you can get as bold as you like while working from home.

To treat color damage
If you’re already starting to see the damaging effects of color and a lack of deep conditioning, consider switching to Shea Moisture’s Purple Rice Water collection. The cleansing and treating set is formulated with Purple Rice, Wild Orchid, Sweet Violet Extract, Shea Butter, Argan Oil and Jojoba Oil to remove dulling residue from hair and restore strength, shine, and color brightness.
