Niecy Nash and husband Jay Tucker have decided to go their separate ways.
In a joint statement that the 49-year-old actress posted on Instagram on Wednesday, they gave the impression that there was no bad blood between them, just an understanding that things had run their course.
“We believe in the beauty of truth. Always have,” they wrote. “Our truth is that in this season of our lives, we are better friends than partners in marriage. Our union was a gorgeous ride. And as we go our separate ways now, we feel fortunate for the love we share — present tense.”
The couple tied the knot in 2011 and even had a TLC reality show that followed the preparations for their nuptials.
Just a year ago, the estranged pair took part in OWN’s Black Love series and joked that “It wasn’t chemistry that brought us together, it was competition.”
And Niecy was known for saying that pleasing her husband was the key to their marital success. In particular, she was referring to the importance of a blow job a day, which she wrote about in her book, It’s Hard to Fight Naked.
“Keeping him fed and drained, you have no problem,” she told Playboy.
When addressing questions about her advice, Niecy had no regrets nor qualms when talking about what works for their marriage.
“I feel like I’m built to be a wife. I feel like in that, there’s a responsibility that comes with the job,” she told MadameNoire in 2014. “No you don’t always want to get up and go to work, that’s why it’s called a ‘blow job.’ But at the end of that two week period when you receive your payment for services rendered, you feel like, ‘Oh, I needed that. That came right on time.’ So there is a call on my life in my role as a wife to be of service. And in turn, my service is repaid by covering and protecting. So I’m not going to be without what I need on the other side of it because I’m also giving what is necessary for the relationship to have the reciprocity that it needs for us to both be fulfilled.”
“There’s reciprocity in it,” she added. “I’m not painting a picture of a woman who is just a martyr for the D-game. I’m not just going to live my life in service unto you, but what I am saying is that in the right relationship, being of service begets reciprocity of everybody’s needs being met…whatever they may be.”
Over the last few months, specifically since spring, public outings between the two, even their romantic gestures on social media, started to become few and far between. For example, Niecy’s date to the Emmys in September, where she was nominated for her work in When They See Us, was girlfriend Sherri Shepherd. So with that being said, while we’re sad to see this couple call it quits, it’s not a huge shock. Things definitely seemed amiss with them for some time.
