This past Spring, we wrote about Orlando Moore and Portia Ravenelle, the New York couple who disappeared and later died as the result of what is believed to be a car crash.

More recently, another Black couple vacationing in the island nation were also found dead in their hotel room.

According to PEOPLE, Edward Nathaniel Holmes, 63, and Cynthia Ann Day, 49, from Maryland were found dead at the Playa Nueva Romana resort this past Thursday.

The couple missed their scheduled check out on Thursday and were found unresponsive by hotel staff. Reportedly, there were no signs of violence.

An autopsy released by the Dominican Repulic National Police found that the couple had respiratory failure and pulmonary edema. High blood pressure medication was found in the room.

The resort released this statement regarding the discovery of the bodies on their property: ““We are deeply saddened by the incident at one of our hotels in La Romana, Dominican Republic, and want to express our deepest condolences to their family and friends.”

The U.S. Department of State is investigating with local authorities to determine what happened to the couple who had been staying at the resort since May 25.

In addition to the couple who disappeared last spring, the deaths of Edward and Cynthia comes days after 51-year-old Tammy Lawrence-Daley, who was vacationing with her husband in Punta Cana, spoke out about the violence she endured.

Lawrence-Daley was attacked when she went down to the resort’s lounge to grab a snack. She went to the beach side of the lounge and was attacked while she was walking back to her room, in the rotunda between two buildings. She was beaten and thrown in a hole, partially filled with water, where she remained for several hours until she screamed for help and nearby employees heard her.

Interestingly enough, her attackers didn’t take anything from her. They even left her cell phone but she couldn’t use it because her eyes were swollen shut and there was no service in a foreign country.

With this being the third incident of Americans disappearing, being beaten, attacked or mysteriously dying in the Dominican Republic, we have to wonder what exactly is going on there.
