The ladies of The Real have wrapped up filming episodes of Season 5 (the last new episodes will air until Friday, May 31) and are on hiatus for the summer. For Loni Love, she’s celebrating some time away from the show and the bright lights and hectic schedule that come with it by giving the wigs a break and letting her natural curls fly free.

The 47-year-old shared a photo of herself with her natural curl texture out, calling the look “#hiatushair.”

While this is the first time we’ve seen Love’s natural curl texture like this, it isn’t the first time she’s let fans see what her strands look like. Back in December, she showed everyone that she had quite a head of hair on her:

She also shared a picture of her hair in a similar state on The Real after co-host Tamera Mowry-Housley went fully natural with her coils in 2014.

When asked why she chooses to keep her hair covered under wigs, Love explained that the wigs protect her locks from the damage she believes could be incurred from the hot lights she’s often under.

“I do it as protective style. I do two to three shows a day up to 15 shows in a week..tv and comedy shows.. my hair would wear out under lights and heat,” she said. “I’ve been doing it for fifteen years that is why I have hair. I take care of it.”

It also may have something to do with the stylists she’s encountered in Hollywood who have proven themselves incapable of hooking her hair up, so wigs it is.

“Honey I have brought my whole glam kit, flat irons, pink lotion, Shea butter at times during a new set,” she wrote on Twitter.” I’m tired of looking grey with red lips”
