We live for a good natural hair moment, particularly when it comes to a major fashion fest like the 2019 Met Gala.

As the “Camp”-themed style extravaganza kicked off at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City Monday night, Yara Shahidi, Ciara, Priyanka Chopra, and more stars hit the pink stairs with their tresses styled in exaggerated natural looks that gave us major natural hair inspo.

Given the theme, which was a nod to very “campy” over-the-the top style moments, nothing about their hairstyles were ordinary. Each one gave us elevated natural hair that served a different type of statement at the fete. One that celebrated their roots.

Yara Shahidi

Shahidi’s natural curly locks, complete with a bang and topped with a curly bouffant of sorts, was one of our fave styles of the night, with the look complimenting her bejeweled Prada corseted bodysuit that she paired with a furry coat and lacy pink stockings.

The Grownish star told E! News her look was inspired by “black excellence,” adding, “that’s what I was trying to pull from. I’m really grateful. When I saw Camp – I’m really grateful to be able to have a lineage of cultural space makers to pull from.”

Lupita Nyong’o

That mantra seemed to echo throughout the night, especially when Lupita Nyong’o sauntered on the carpet and took our breaths away with a stunning sky-high afro with gold picks tucked inside of it. If that isn’t giving culture vibes, we don’t know what is.

Ciara

It was clear Ciara also had a “go big or go home” mentality when it came to killing it on the carpet with a natural hair look. The “Level Up” songstress slayed and smized as she cascaded up the staircase with her hair sleek, parted down the middle and tucked into a huge afro.

Halsey

Those hairstyles and more made it even more exciting to see what was coming next, and how stars would pair their bold looks with their hairstyles. Halsey, who usually rocks her hair short, sported a textured wig with her red cropped Wonder Woman-inspired ensemble.

Priyanka Chopra

Meanwhile, Chopra, who often rocks sleek long styles, went short, wavy, and textured for the bash, queening as she topped her locks with a metallic silver crown.

While there wasn’t a natural hair trend per se, we did notice a few celebrities rocking cornrows and twists..

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross, for example, sported cornrows that could be seen as she struck poses inside of the attached frame that was a part of her outfit. Zoe Kravitz also rocked cornrows, pairing the look with a plunging sequined dress. Meanwhile, Joan Smalls had her hair twisted up into an updo, with two long twists falling past her shoulders.
