(Washington Examiner) — Maryland and Virginia saw third-quarter losses in state tax revenue in 2010 compared with the same quarter last year, bucking a national trend showing positive gains.  Nationally, states collected $7.6 billion more in taxes during the third quarter this year than in 2009, representing a 4.8 percent increase in state tax dollars, according to Census Bureau figures released Wednesday. The District of Columbia fared slightly better than the national average with a 4.9 percent increase in tax revenues.
