Before she fell in love and became engaged to Safaree Samuels, Erica Mena was in a relationship with basketball player Cliff Dixon from 2017 to late 2018. Sadly, the former Western Kentucky University basketball star and close friend of Golden State Warrior Kevin Durant was shot and killed in metro Atlanta early Thursday morning. Per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, he was reportedly trying to celebrate his birthday, which was on March 17. He was only 32.

According to TMZ, while preparing to enter the SL Lounge to partake in festivities, a man approached Dixon and opened fire around 1 a.m. in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital.

While all of this happened, Mena was actually on vacation in Jamaica with Samuels, and still is. By Thursday night, the 31-year-old reality star posted a heartfelt message for Dixon.

“We all deal with so much. You dealt with a lot,” she wrote to him in front of a childhood photo of Dixon. “I’m so sorry this happened, you didn’t deserve this. Rest in forever peace. Watch over your blood sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and your mommy. I know they are so broken right now.”

Mena and Dixon’s relationship ended on a sour note in October 2018 after they were both involved in a domestic dispute. Both parties were arrested, Dixon for criminal trespass in her home, Mena for having marijuana and THC wax there. Days after their split, there was also a disagreement that ended up online over Dixon’s belongings. A month later, she was seen out with Samuels, and he was linked to Instagram star India Love for a short time.

Despite their past issues, a tragedy is a tragedy, and the Love and Hip Hop star, who dated Dixon for 10 months, is affected by his death.

“Please love me while I’m still here,” she wrote in an InstaStory, followed up by, “Nothing is promise [sic] Appreciate life.”
