ACTRESS & SINGER BRANDY AT MACY'S

Singer Brandy Norwood was undeniably one of the most pivotal style icons for Black women back in the 90s. Between her chart topping albums and her popular television show “Moesha,” we all wanted to look like Brandy–the Black Cinderella. And achieving that look, of course, required the one hair style that is forever intertwined with the Black girl experience: micro braids.

We would sit for hours getting our hair braided as young girls, anxious to achieve the long human-haired braided tresses or a bulky synthetic braided bob reminiscent of Brandy’s red carpet or TV hair dos.

The gorgeous look came with its sacrifices, whether it was just the hours spent squirming around on your butt periodically yelling “too tight” to your non-english speaking braider,  or the aftermath of the braids which sometimes included headaches, dreading, and at its worst, tension balding (screams in edges).

But now, the recent discovery of an Internet user is threatening to throw a wrench in our nostalgia. Some Brandy fans are speculating that the star was wearing lacefront braided wigs all along.

Even though lacefront braids are popularized now, if it’s true that Brandy was wearing wigs and opting to protect her natural tresses on occasion, this woman was so far ahead of her time.

Evidence from Instagram user @nneunfiltered is presented below:

What do you all think, were we all deceived into getting micros when all along wigging out was the best way to achieve and maintain this style?
