(Crain’s) — Here’s a stark piece of good news from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics: Going to work in New York City has never been less deadly.

From 2008 to 2009, the number of fatal work injuries in the city tumbled to 63 from 90, the BLS found. That mark, though preliminary, is the fewest work-related fatalities reported in New York City since the start of the BLS fatality census in 1992. The 30% decline in deaths here compares favorably to a 17% slide nationally.
