When I was in middle school I didn’t have sex-ed courses. I had “Family Life Education” classes. Early on in my Catholic school curriculum, it was important for the school to set a part sex as something you do within the context of family.

As you can imagine, the courses were very geared towards biology versus pleasure. I had to learn about g spots and orgasm and my clitoris from listening to my older sisters conversations and sneaking to watch late night TV or staying up late reading Zane.

While it’s important that we “let kids be kids” as long as possible, but at what age should we start teaching them about orgasm?

Jess Phillips, a member of parliament in Britain, thinks all girls should learn about their pleasure centers early, according to The Independent.

“We should be telling girls about orgasms during sex education. I’m not suggesting we teach children how to masturbate, I’m suggesting we talk to them about the things they’re doing anyway,” Phillips said.

“Women’s expectations should be greater,” she continued, “we have to start demanding more.”

Perhaps not being taught about the pleasure of sex early on has led a lot of us to be stunted in our ability to orgasm, or left us with partners who don’t know how to please our bodies.

A study published in the Archives Of Sexual Behavior, claims that 95% of heterosexual men “usually or always” orgasm, compared to just 65% of heterosexual women.

The conversation was broached in Britain after the Department Of Education seek to make changes to their sexual eduction for the first time in 17 years.

The changes they make to the curriculum could cover cyber bullying, LGBT issues, consent and porn.

If kids are going to learn about these topics eventually, doesn’t it behoove us to make sure he conversations happen in a healthy, safe environment?
