As more high-profile black female celebrities are entering into interracial marriages and relationships, it has become quite the topic of conversation for those that are both for and against the unions. Now, Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas of TLC is offering her views on the matter—and she hopes black women will listen up.

If you remember back in 2010, Chilli had a two-season reality show on VH1 titled What Chilli Wants. In the series, she enlisted the help of a matchmaker to help her find her soulmate, but the road to romance was rocky because of her long list of must-haves, do’s and don’ts.

In the years since the show, she has continued to date, but hasn’t settled down with anyone yet, but she has some advice for black women to follow that she says makes her road to finding happily ever after easier, that advice would be dating outside your race.

While speaking with Essence to promote the eight-part Netflix music documentary series Once In A Lifetime Sessions which features TLC, Chilli offered up some dating advice that she hopes black women will follow. The 47-year-old states, “I want for women — especially for women of color — to not be so closed minded when it comes to love,” Chilli, who identifies as mixed, said. She continued to stress her point saying, “God made all of us and you may not find your husband because you’re trying to stick to one group. You’ve got to be open.”

She followed up those statements by stressing the importance of finding the right man for you, regardless of his race because if you limit yourself you could be missing out. “You want the person who’s the best person for you, no matter what color he is.”

Chilli gives an update on her current love life and revealed that she is indeed “testing the waters” and dating someone currently…and no, “he is not Black.” As far that infamous list she used to have? Well, it’s gotten even longer she says, “It’s still long and maybe a little longer now. I know what I bring to the table.”

You can catch Chilli and bandmate Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins in Once In A Lifetime Sessions now streaming on Netflix to get a peek at TLC on tour, behind-the-scenes in the studio and more.
