Issa Rae recently was on the Today Show promoting Insecure and the LA beauty opted for a natural nude polish on her nails to complement her floral patterned dress.

The nail polish is perfect for everyday wear. With nail work done by Eri Ishizu, Isa Rae sported Pear Nova’s nail lacquer in Dianna Boss, which is a warm pink nude creme that’s perfect year round. The company is founded by Rachel James and we love that Issa Rae continues to support Black-owned brands.

The vegan-friendly, cruelty-free nail company created Dianna Boss as part of its array of nudes for us melanated ladies called, BRWNGRLMGC. The collection includes Cle F*ckin Patra, Frida Be Bree, Michelle Our Mama, and of course, Dianna Boss.

Rachel James stated, “Nail polish sits right in between beauty and fashion.” The line is inspired by trends on the runway and bringing fashion to your fingertips with this long-wearing formula. In addition to being vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, the polish is also “5-free” meaning it doesn’t have the following ingredients: formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, toluene, or dibutyl phthalate DBP. Because nails are so porous, it’s important to care about what ingredients your polishes as we are exposed to toxins when we bite our nails or rub our eyes. Formaldehyde can even trigger asthma while dibutyl phthalate DBP is known to cause cancer.

The nail polish costs a little more than Essie at $11.50 a bottle (but note that Essie is only “3 free”, so you are getting more for your money with Pear Nova). The brand also creates pre-made collections ranging from $22.00 to $44.00.

You’ll love the packaging as the polish comes in an oblong shape, which is refreshing from the typical square packaging of nail polish. If your wondering how James’ came up with the name Pear Nova, she told Her Style Media, “I knew I was going to name it after my sister, Nova. I came across nova pear trees on Google one day and read that they are known to withstand extreme weather. Knowing how strong of a woman Nova was, I had to go right along with it.”
