Barbie is teaching young girls about the joy of playing with natural curls with a new deluxe styling head and it’s about time!
Black moms on Instagram were stunned to find out that Mattel has produced a Deluxe Barbie Styling Head with naturally textured hair. CocoaMochaKids found the doll perched on a shelf in the Barbie aisle at a New Jersey Wal-Mart earlier this month, and they couldn’t resist sharing it with their followers.
They also couldn’t resist picking up a few of their own, and we don’t blame them! The girls seemed to have had a great time with the toy.
Followers immediately began looking everywhere for the same styling head at their local retailers–some even went to the Mattel website–in hopes of getting their own. According to Mattel, this Barbie Color & Style Deluxe Styling Head is exclusively sold at Wal-Mart for $29.99. It’s unclear when this product may have hit stores, but it seems to be a fairly new release for 2018.
The doll comes with a head full of plush curls for girls to play with, getting them familiar with caring for naturally textured hair.
As the name suggests, young hair stylists will be able to color the doll’s hair using a bottle of coloring gel and an applicator. Although no rollers or headscarf were included with the product, the Barbie brand is clearly up on proper detangling technique as the doll also comes with a hair pic and a spray bottle. Full disclosure, a hair straightener has been included in the set of styling tools for the dolls. But that does acknowledge the versatility of natural hair and texture manipulation.
Girls will also be able to style the doll’s hair in a variety of ways as the 25-piece set comes with an assortment of barrettes and headbands. Mattel even included a hair extension and gems among the hair accessories.
Young ladies will even be able to give their Barbie styling head a cute manicure with a set of press-ons and decals, or they can use magical nail applicator to change her nails to pink.
While the nail work is a nice addition, we’re all the way here for the curls! Would it be bad if we picked one up for ourselves?
