Earlier this summer, Tyrese petitioned the courts for primary custody of his 10-year-old daughter Shayla Gibson. Primary custody would mean that Shayla would come to live with him and his wife, Samantha, in Atlanta.
Tyrese claimed that Shayla would be in a stable and loving environment, able to live in the lap of luxury with him.
But in new court documents obtained by The Blast, Tyrese’s ex-wife, Norma Gibson, is fighting against the motion, citing Tyrese’s “anger issues and mental health” as just one of the reasons the primary custody should be denied.
According to documents Norma claims it is not in their daughter’s best interests to “have her life completely disrupted” for Tyrese’s “selfish reasons.”
Norma said with Tyrese’s busy schedule, their daughter would be raised by her nanny and stepmother, not her father.
She continued saying, she “has serious concerns as to [Tyrese’s] anger issues and mental health, exhibited by many puzzling videos he has posted.” Norma says Tyrese has made public statements about having meltdowns and has admitted to seeing “multiple therapists and psychiatrists.”
Norma also referenced incidents of abuse against both her and Shayla as further reason he shouldn’t be granted primary custody.
A judge has yet to rule on the request.
