(Crain’s) — The U.S. Senate on Wednesday passed a $26 billion jobs bill that would restore billions of dollars in Medicaid funding to the state and the city. Local lawmakers are counting on the money to avoid laying off municipal workers.
The House of Representatives, which is not in session, must pass similar legislation before the funding can be restored to local governments. House leaders Wednesday were reportedly trying to determine whether and when they would summon their members back to Washington.
