While LeToya Luckett hasn’t performed with the ladies of Destiny’s Child since probably 1999, that doesn’t mean she hasn’t kept in touch with them. She is still pretty friendly with Kelly Rowland, and as it turns out, Kelly was one of the very first people to know she was pregnant with her first child.

“Funny enough, Kelly was the first to know,” she told TheYBF.com. “She called me and I was about to go on stage, well her and Ashley, who’s one of my great friends. We were all on FaceTime and Kelly jumped in the screen and she was like, ‘You pregnant ain’t ya?’ I had just found out. She was like, ‘It’s all over your face. You pregnant ain’t ya?’ I said, ‘I’m not going to answer that…I can’t lie to you so, yes.’ She was one of the first to know.”

And while the news wasn’t a shock to Rowland, it’s something that blew LeToya and husband Tommicus Walker away.

“Now this baby, we weren’t planning for all this,” she said. “I worked two jobs when I got pregnant. I was doing Greenleaf on weekdays and doing Set It Off the play on weekends. I don’t know how this happened.”

But the 37-year-old is looking forward to all that motherhood will bring, especially with someone like Walker by her side through it all. Surprisingly, the couple, who wed in December, have already withstood some rough waters.

“I’m loving that no matter what you go through, you have a life partner there,” she said. “And I feel like within our marriage, especially within the first couple of months, stuff was coming out of nowhere. Just, you know. It was good stuff, bad stuff, all this stuff. But, through it all, we stayed strong though a lot of it. Then, everything that came out made us stronger. Everything! I mean, stuff started popping off on the honeymoon! And we were doing nothing but sitting back and laughing about it. So we were like, ‘Yo! The enemy really be trying to work! He really don’t like marriage.’ And it’s awesome to have someone who’s equally yoked with you. Where y’all could pray and go before God and just, you know, have that foundation. And that’s what we build our relationship on.”

It also helps to already be stepmother to a 6-year-old (“who’s going on 23”) named Madison, who’s given LeToya her fair share of parenting experience. But that doesn’t mean she still isn’t nervous about what’s to come.

“Oh it’s terrifying, but it’s like God prepares you for everything,” she said. “I’m excited, I’m terrified. It’s as real as it gets.”
