Some will say that summer is the time of bold lip colors that are striking and make people turn heads. But there’s a good number of women who are still all about the nude lip yearround.

Thankfully, the growing number of makeup brands that create nude lip colors for women of color is growing. Check out the top 7 brands I’m fawning over at the moment who are serving up some of the best nude lipstick options for Black women.

Mented Cosmetics

Founded by two dope Black women, Amanda E. Johnson and KJ Miller, Mented Cosmetics caught my attention last year on Facebook. Their nude collection solely dedicated to women of color has taken off since it’s official launch in March 2017.

Top Pick: Dope Taupe, $16.50

NYX

The NYX Lip Lingerie collection has become one of my go-to, affordable faves. The undertones are carefully formulated for a multitude of women of color. They’re under $10 and can be purchased at most of your local commercial retailers like Target and Walgreens.

Top Pick: After Hours, $7

NARS

A more high-end option for the women who love a luxury lip. NARS has been on point for a while now when it comes to women of color and beauty. I always go with glosses from NARS because their formulas are so well developed. Expect to drop between $15-30 for anyone of their lip colors, but also, be sure to know it’ll be worth it.

Top Pick: SuperVixen, $26

Maybelline

Because it’s only been around for about 100 years and has pretty much nailed the lipstick game. Maybelline launched some amazing lip colors last year. From their great matte lip collection (SuperStay MatteInk) to their bold Matte Metallics collection, you know for sure you can get a good product for a low price.

Top Pick: SuperStay Matte Ink Lip Color in Visionary, $9.49

MAC

Of course MAC Cosmetics would be on this list. While my love for MAC has shifted a bit since so many indie brands are dedicating their products to women of color, it’s still the OG of it all. There’s not a shame you can’t find within MAC beauty portfolio. Thus, they must be included in this roundup.

Top Pick: Fresh Brew, $18.50

The Lip Bar

Founded by bomb Black woman Melissa Butler, The Lip Bar has been one of the growing Black-owned beauty brands disrupting the beauty industry and challenging its standards. Her products are vegan and cruelty-free, and can now be found at Target!

Top Pick: Know It All, $13

Pat McGrath

The Mother of beauty herself, Pat McGrath has been gracefully giving the world her unique vision on how to boldly utilize color in the beauty world since her days working with Edward Enniful. In October 2015, she launched her first product, Gold 001. Ever since then, the beauty world hasn’t been the same. Try one of her lustrous nude colors from her collection, and trust me, you’ll be hooked.

Top Pick: Luxetrance Lipstick in Attitude, $38
