A few months ago, I began to notice a trend by celebrities, a trend that I immediately flagged as something I would definitely try out this spring and summer. It was bright, bold eyes filled with every color you could imagine — pinks, greens, yellows, and blues. But of course, it’s only grown since my initial findings, and I am OBSESSED with the lewks that have been served left and right. Then, Rihanna came with these recent Fenty looks, and I just knew that was it. I had to give an ode to this beautiful beauty trend that I hope sticks around. So if you’re looking for a bit of inspiration for the spring, here are how celebrities are wearing the trend.

AMANDLA STENBERG

I love Amandla’s look because it’s a simple cat-eye, easily accessible if you’re not a makeup pro.

RIHANNA

Before she even announced Fenty Beauty’s fabulous eyeshadows, Rihanna was steppin’ out in this beautifully bold purple look. I absolutely adored the fact she paired it with an equally poppin’ lipstick.

THANDIE NEWTON

Thandie’s look was so sweet and subtle and a great option for people who want to play with color without going overboard. Plus, orange is such a beautiful color for the spring and summer!

SOLANGE

On the flip side, Solange stepped out in this bold red shadow for the cover of Elle. Red eyeshadows are such a hard thing to find (like a TRUE red), but Solange made me a believer. Now I’m on the quest for a bold red eyeshadow.

LUPITA NYONG’O

When Lupita came to the 2017 Met Gala in this bold orange dress, I easily was more transfixed with her eyeshadow. I see a bit of everything in there, making it its own standalone artwork. For a look like this, it’s all about just trying what you like and pushing past the idea of what you can and can’t do.

ZENDAYA

One thing we know for sure is that black girls look beautiful in yellow, and Zendaya‘s gentle-yet-bold eyeshadow is something that I stand behind. For colors like this, just be sure to wear a primer so it doesn’t wear!

ADWOA ABOAH

This cover felt like the “cover around the world.” Edward Enninful didn’t just come in with a black woman on the front of his first magazine cover as the EIC of British Vogue, but he came with a fire look for Adwoa and these bright, bold colors. Also, this proves something very important: Even if you’re fairer-skinned, you can still pull off bold colors!

RIHANNA

I just…this was one of those looks that I loved from every angle, every spot, every moment of baby blue. I never knew I needed a baby blue eyeshadow until that moment. Rih makes no mistakes.

JASMINE SANDERS

And also a look that stole my heart was this bold, deep cobalt-blue eyeshadow that Jasmine Sanders, aka Golden Barbie, wore to the CFDA Awards. I’m just here for this idea of “go big or go home.”

JASMIN TOOKES

Within the covers of Elle, Jasmin Tookes had this beautiful shadow that just paired beautifully with her deep skin tone. Ugh, how beautiful is she?!

JANELLE MONAE

Janelle gave us a yellow cat eye while also giving us a smooth purple under eye. I love the contrast of bright and subtle, paired with a red glossy lip that gave us a ton of pop art.

PRECIOUS LEE

Another color I love is gold, gold, gold. This bold gold eyeshadow is a look that anyone can pull off, and you can play up or down the texture and the amount. Slay, y’all!

KERRY WASHINGTON

attends the 2018 Film Independent Spirit Awards on March 3, 2018 in Santa Monica, California.

Y’all know Kerry Washington doesn’t do anything TOO crazy with her makeup, but this deep green color is a nice breath of fresh air to the standard smokey eye. I like how she went bold with the eye but then kept the face super neutral. I’m a fan.

CHLOE X HALLE

These two savvy sisters sometimes are twins to me, and other times are like night and day. Nonetheless, they both gave us beautiful colors that are bodacious, one with a pink and the other with a blue. I love how it’s paired with their outfits. I love them. Ugh, I just love it all.

LUPITA NYONG’O

Remember when Lupita wore this stunning blue-metallic eyeshadow on the red carpet during the reign of Black Panther? Of course you do. With Lupita’s deep tones, I love how she went cooler-toned that matched her effortless dress. Don’t worry about creases and blending, just put your shadows everywhere!

CYNTHIA ERIVO

Cynthia Erivo stunned in this mossy green eyeshadow, which I think is bold enough for those that are not used to stepping out, but bold enough to snag a few head-turners. I’m definitely trying this look VERY soon!

ZOE KRAVITZ

I have the biggest girl crush on Zoe (it initially started with my huge crush on her mom) but this beautiful pink is bold and bright without being super overbearing. And even though this is an editorial shot, you can certainly do a look like this and make it wearable for everyday.

AJA NAOMI KING

Aja’s look isn’t the stereotypical bold eye in the rest of the slideshow, but it’s still a bold one. She has a golden arch cut crease, and it’s absolutely stunning against this deep cranberry shadow that blends with her skin. Just goes to show you can literally create your own art with eyeshadow.
