Could you imagine getting married without your mother and/or father present?

For a number of people, including celebrities, that has been a reality. Either they didn’t invite their parent because of rocky relations, or the parent couldn’t/didn’t want to be there.

For example, Caitlyn Jenner has stated that she will not attend son Brody’s wedding (y’all remember him from Laguna Beach and The Hills?). TMZ reported that Caitlyn is missing out because she has a previously scheduled work event happening.

“Jenner family sources tell us Brody is extremely upset his dad has taken a pass for his wedding,” they reported. “We’re told Caitlyn has told Brody she can’t come because of a lucrative business opportunity…We’re told the relationship between Brody and Caitlyn has been strained for years. He felt abandoned by his dad when he married Kris [Jenner]. Brody and company lay the blame on both Kris for being ‘selfish’ and Caitlyn for being ‘an enabler’ … they say allowing Kris to put a wall between a dad and his kids from other marriages.”

Whatever the reason for him saying he will be a no-show, you just can’t miss out on your kid’s wedding — unless you’re one of the following star parents:

Jonetta Patton

Usher’s mom missed out on his wedding to Tameka Raymond because, despite their close relationship, she was not here for her son’s decision to marry the stylist.

Ronald Grant

Kenya Moore didn’t even bother inviting her dad to her wedding because he didn’t come off as very supportive when it came to Marc Daly. But based on her previous relationships, particularly the last one with Matt Jordan, he just wanted Moore to be careful with her heart. She later regretted that she left him out of such an important moment.

Mathew Knowles

Would you invite Mathew Knowles to your wedding? He does have a history of telling everyone’s business and stirring the pot. Whatever the reason behind his absence, Knowles wasn’t present when Solange married Alan Ferguson in New Orleans in 2014 in one of our favorite weddings. Many speculated that she didn’t invite him and didn’t want to make things awkward for mama Tina and new partner, Richard Lawson, who were present.

Thomas Markle

After a lot of family drama that played out publicly, Thomas Markle pulled out of walking daughter Meghan down the aisle, and then, after suffering a heart attack, no longer had the choice. He ended up watching the wedding like the rest of the world on TV — from a hospital bed after surgery.

Vicky Davis

According to the rapper’s brother, Nate, neither he nor their mother, Vicky, were invited to see Gucci walk down the aisle with longtime love Keyshia Ka’oir. Nate told TMZ that what made the whole thing even more petty was the fact that their other brother, Duke, not only attended the wedding, but was also a best man.

Michael Braxton

Of course, it’s known that because he couldn’t bring his wife to the nuptials of daughter Trina and (now ex) husband Gabe, the Braxton patriarch didn’t even bother attending her wedding. Trina, who had a lot of pain over his absence, actually said she confronted Michael about it. “I said, ‘You went to Toni’s wedding, you went Tamar’s wedding, you went to Traci’s wedding. Was I not famous enough?'”

Karen Zolciak

While she was at the wedding, Karen Zolciak’s presence was so problematic, she was forcefully removed from daughter Kim and Kroy’s reception. It was all over Karen’s desire to use a bathroom in her daughter’s house, as opposed to using the $5,000 fancy porter-potty situation set up for the wedding:

Serena Williams

The tennis ace revealed that her dad missed out on her New Orleans wedding after he text her right before saying that he just didn’t feel comfortable walking her down the aisle. Following health issues over the last few years, including a reported stroke, he just wasn’t feeling like himself and didn’t feel up to it. Thankfully, Serena understood and was incredibly supportive.

Joe and Pam Bryant

Both Kobe’s mom and dad, Joe and Pam, missed out on his wedding to Vanessa because they were not fans of his desire to marry her. According to Kobe, his dad also wasn’t a fan of the fact that she was a Latina and not an African-American woman.
