During a conversation with us centered around health and wellness recently (particularly about how she spreads awareness about diabetes and the connection to heart disease due to her mother’s death a few years ago), Angela Bassett talked about the lengths she goes to in order to be at her best in terms of her own health. That includes making yearly trips to the doctor to make sure everything is running right, keeping a positive attitude, and of course, working out.

“Sometimes, especially with the schedule that I keep, it’s difficult,” the 59-year-old said of her fitness regimen. “But if you can, get into some sort of a rhythm of, maybe three times a week doing something. You could start with just walking. Because when you lose that ability, you lose your independence. So keep that going. Whatever it is you enjoy doing, find something that you enjoy doing physically and that you can maintain.”

Being able to “maintain” has allowed the star to stay in fantastic shape. Over the weekend, she shared a picture from her recent vacation to St. Lucia. In it, the star sits in a regal pose in a swimsuit and a swim hat, fiercely staring at the camera as her muscles, barely flexed, stand out:

Looking good! But then again, when does she not look fabulous?
