It’s not always easy being a creative and having your family members, specifically your parents, support your aspirations. So it’s refreshing to see one’s parents not only offer full encouragement, but also truly loves the work that’s created. Maybe that’s why we’re getting warm fuzzies watching SZA’s father jam so hard to her music that he ends up in tears. Now that’s a proud papa.

In a video clip, her father, wearing a hat from her Ctrl tour, sits in a car, singing along to her song, “Broken Clocks.”

“Every time I hear this song, sweetie, I’m in tears,” he said. “I love this song by you! I love your whole album, but this is one of my favorite songs. Every time I hear this song I’m in tears. I got to stop this. I’m sorry.”

And while some might pretend to be embarrassed, the 27-year-old singer was more than happy to shower her father with love in response on Twitter:

SZA, born Solàna Imani Rowe, has said that over the years, her relationship with her father (who was an executive producer for CNN when she was growing up) has developed greatly. They operate not only as friends in a way (a way that includes smoking together), but he also shares a lot of his wisdom with her, which she now truly appreciates.

“It’s funny,” she said of their bond to Mass Appeal in 2014. “It’s taken a lot of different forms. Now we just like smoke together, and chill. We’re just past a lot of shit. I’m too old for it, and he’s too old. We don’t have any energy to beef with each other so we just hang out. I think my dad is just a very logical person. He’s very learned. He tries to arm me with knowledge.”
