“Don’t Take My Baby!” Tyrese Records Himself Breaking Down Over Custody Battle, Friendships, Career

- By

It hasn’t been an easy few weeks for singer and actor Tyrese Gibson. He’s been embroiled in a court battle with his ex-wife Norma Gibson over custody of daughter Shayla, as she wants sole custody. She successfully obtained a restraining order against Tyrese for both herself and Shayla after the 10-year-old allegedly said that Tyrese spanked her so hard after an incident that she was having trouble sitting down. Following court proceedings, Tyrese checked into the hospital last week for chest pains and dehydration. And now, following a settlement he reportedly rejected, Tyrese emotionally broke down on video and shared it with the world. The video has since been taken down, but was retrieved by TMZ.

In the clip, Tyrese, who is seen wearing a “Shayla Rocks” hoodie, opens up about the legal battle and at a certain point, breaks down in tears. He says he hasn’t seen Shayla in two months (though he was allowed monitored visitation with her a few days ago) and laments over the cost of his legal troubles, the “millionaire and billionaire friends” who haven’t come to his aid and how he allegedly hasn’t been able to obtain work due to the allegations against him. Not only has he been accused of abusing Shayla, but past allegations of domestic violence against Norma have resurfaced during this court battle. Basically, Tyrese feels like he’s not being heard, he’s alone, and is being attacked for wanting to be in Shayla’s life. By the end of the clip, he falls to the ground bawling when he says, “Because [Norma] wakes up and decides on September 11 this is what I feel like saying about Tyrese, nobody wants to hire me, Norma! Congratulations!”

He also shared his thoughts on his famous colleagues, including The Rock, whom he’s been feuding with over the star’s Fast & Furious spinoff, in a few rants posted to Instagram:

All of this follows reports, according to The Blast, that Tyrese declined a settlement opportunity. It would have allowed him visitation with his daughter, with the possibility of going back to the old schedule, if he admitted to the abuse and sought out help. He passed on the offer in front of the voluntary settlement conference judge on October 31 and said he would take his chances in court.

According to TMZ, Shayla’s nanny will conclude the testimonies today in the custody case. Whatever the ruling is in this situation, we just hope that Tyrese will obtain the help and support he needs, because things are clearly spiraling out of control.
