Beyonce Signs On For Global Girl Empowerment Campaign, Chime for Change
Beyonce has teamed up with the Chime For Change Campaign to launch an initiative to help girls “run the world.” While Beyonce is involved, the masterminds behind the campaign are actress Salma Hayek and Gucci creative director, Frida Giannini. Already up and running is a new Facebook page and a two-and-a-half minute video spot announcing their new female empowerment campaign reports the Huffington Post.
“The initiative aims to raise funds and awareness in support of projects for girls and women around the world, through sharing ‘powerful stories’ about inspiring females,” wrote Vogue.com’s Sarah Karmali, who noted that further details of the campaign were announced by Hayek at the TEDxWomen luncheon at Bryn Mawr College.
It was actually Hayek and Giannini who came up with the idea. There will be a series of ten short films, narrated by Hayek and set to new music by Beyonce. The videos will depict inspirational stories of women across the globe. There will be a slew of celebrities involved: Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Arianna Huffington (Huffington Post founder) among them.
Chime for Change encourages people throughout the world to support girls’ and women’s projects by enabling citizen philanthropy and is the first crowdfunding platform dedicated to advancing the lives of girls and women.
“I have always felt strongly about equal opportunity for women… It’s up to us to change the statistics for women around the world,” Beyonce told Vogue.
According to HuffPo, Beyoncé’s involvement may help put to rest criticism of her lack charitable pursuits. “Last year, the singer’s altruism came into question when actor Harry Belafonte accused her and husband, Jay-Z, of turning their backs on social responsibility,” writes the site. In turn, Beyoncé’s camp sent a list to the Wall Street Journal of the singer’s charitable acts, including co-founding a multi-purpose community outreach facility in downtown Houston, donating $100,000 to hurricane Ike relief in 2008 and performing at MTV’s Hope For Haiti Now! benefit.
In Cased You Missed It: After Being Close To Divorce LAST Christmas, Kobe And Vanessa Bryant Reunite For Holiday Photo

As the title of this post says, it was just December of last year that Vanessa Bryant filed for divorce from Kobe Bryant and folks were talking about homegirl possibly receiving a whopping $75 million and three homes in a divorce settlement. Last Christmas, it was safe to say that the smiles from the couple were few and far between when it comes to being directed at one another. This year that is now coming to a close, according to their lawyers, was supposed to be the time that they dissolved their marriage. But this year has seen Vanessa and Kobe moving about together, Vanessa showing up at games, Kobe with his family, all smiles again. And they have closed out this year with a holiday photo that is the kind of cute pic I’m used to (move over Shaunie and the Kardashians) as everyone is rocking big smiles and fabulous Christmas colors. Well, Kobe is wearing a suit, but I doubt anybody wanted to see him in a Cosby Christmas sweater. Vanessa also snapped a glammed up pic with her daughters, Natalia (to the far right in both pics) and Gianna, as she rocked the velvet green Gucci dress that was a celebrity favorite this year.
I can’t confirm for you if all this means that they are one big happy family and that the couple is working on resolving issues that put them on the brink of divorce this time last year. It would make sense though, because in June they were putting they were said to allegedly be putting their split on hold for the time being, but either way, it’s nice to see them putting on a happy face for their lovely daughters. They’ve been down with one another for a while now (and she’s put up with hellas), and if they can make it work, then that’s what’s up! Here’s to a happy 2013 to them, and kudos on delivering a very fun and, dare I say, human holiday photo for such high-profile people. Do you like the photo?

Celebs That Could & Should Quit Their Days Jobs…To Model
Ha! And you thought this was going to be a negative story didn’t you? Well it kind of is, but it steers towards the positive. Promise.
I’ve noticed that there are so many people in Hollywood now trying to sing, dance, act and more, when in reality, they have no business doing it. In fact their “talents” could be of better use in some other field. And maybe it’s the hundreds of pounds of makeup their teams throw on them, and the stylists they pay big money to help them keep their wigs on straight, but I always look at the following women and think, while they are not the best at their chosen craft, they’re pretty enough to be successful at something else: modeling. Take a look yourself and see if you agree…

Rihanna Over-Taxed Because of Caribbean Nationality?
(NY Post) –A tax lawyer working for Gucci tried to soak Rihanna for 30 percent of a lucrative endorsement deal after learning the pop star was from Barbados, according to an explosive discrimination suit.
Plaintiff Josephine Robinson says she was working on Rihanna’s contract with the Italian fashion house in 2008 when she got the shocking directive from her boss, international tax counsel Stan Sherwood.
“When Sherwood discovered that Rihanna was from a Caribbean island, he told Robinson to ‘tax the hell out of her’ and find a way to allow Gucci to withhold 30 percent of her fee,” according to Robinson’s suit.
Tattoos to Avoid By All Means Necessary
Oh, how addictive getting tatted up can be.
When people tell me they want a new tattoo but aren’t sure of what to get, I always want to yell at them in dismay not to get one. Not because I’m against body art, but because when people get that craving to feel the needle against their skin, they usually come out of the parlor with a marking they’ll regret. Something spur of the moment. We can all agree there’s no need for you to have a tattoo of your own name. And while most small, hidden tattoos that catch people by surprise can be Hot, these days, spontaneous (basically stupid) designs end up too big to hide and the person ends up having to explain their body of work everytime it meets someone’s eye. So if you want to try out a new tattoo, I beg of you, check out the following failures in tattoo trends and avoid them at all costs.
