Well, I guess their time has passed but it’s nice to know how heavily Kelis affected Pharrell.

In a recent interview with British Vogue, Pharrell was in the midst of discussing his personal fashion trends, he credited Kelis with getting him on the right path:

“I’d just signed this girl called Kelis, and back then all I wore was Ralph Lauren‘s Polo, because that was the thing. And Kelis turned to me and said, ‘You’ve got to get out of this box.’  She introduced me to Prada and Gucci. It was thanks to Kelis I discovered a life outside of monograms.”

If you recall, Kelis was very tight with The Neptunes in the mid-2000′s and was specifically close with Pharrell.  It has always been rumored that they had a “friends with benefits” situation while working together. That personal relationship, of course, could be part of the reason they haven’t worked together in years.

It feels like – and don’t kill me – Kelis may have been Pharrell’s muse.  In fact, his fiancé Helen kind of has a funky vibe like Kelis. Then again, that just might be the type of woman he likes.

Speaking of Pharrell’s personal life, he also added in the interview that his entire life centers around music, Helen and their son, Rocket.  You won’t catch him out kicking it too often because as he puts it, “I don’t have a social life. Because what is that but drama?”

The September issue of British Vogue hits newsstands Monday, August 5th.

I really like both Kelis and Pharrell. It’s good to see more nerdy and quirky black folks out there making good music while looking good.

Kelis definitely has her own style. Her and pharrell would have been cool together. One thing i’ve noticed is some of the trends people claim other people, like rihanna started, Kelis did first. Not saying she copied her, but Kelis is actually ahead but nobody really gives her the credit.

Same thing with Erykah Badu’s influence on Andre 3000, and Common when she dated them. She must’ve put something on them brothers because men don’t change for just any woman. Sometimes women do the same thing, changing/altering their style when they get with someone.

I wish those two would of made it worked too. It is between him and Nas! Either way Kelis is a bad bish!
