Superstars & Their Chocolate Wives

Historically, some folks side-eyed black male celebrities who would use white wives as status symbols. For real, these men would get a new house, a new car, and secure a new white woman as their way of proving to themselves that they were no longer “slaves.” Their white wife or girlfriend validated them. Nowadays however, men and women can marry whomever they want without folks thinking they’re doing it because “they’re slave-minded.” People of all shades and colors have found that racism is a crazy concept that inspired crazy people to enslave and colonize others.

Still, there are some celebrity men (uhm, I’m looking at you Slim Thug, and you too, random “entertainment journalist”) who are color-drunk and stuck in the 19th century–so some women do complain about who’s marrying the “sisters.” Well, we’re ALL sisters no matter the shade–light bright or cocoa dark, but if you’re referring to chocolate sisters, quite a few superstars have chocolate wives. Check out our list of black male superstars who have chocolate wives…

Starting with Ne-Yo, the article says: "Here are some Engaged and Boo-ed Up HONORARY MENTIONS…"

They are separate from the – married – couples. The first batch of couples are all married. The rest are HONORARY MENTIONS.

  • Bartski

i agree love and marriage, what are the others doing here, are we that short on strong black marriages,

  • gracex

    @ Aakhu

last time i checked beyonce and jada are not chocolate. the title says superstars and their chcolate wives for a reason.

  • Sha-Roy

    I agree.

  • Aakhu

Where's Will & Jada? Beyonce & Jay-Z? Those 2 MARRIED couples should have been there instead of those boyfriend/girlfriend couples.

  • Countess

I know they had to search long and hard to find Black love in Hollywood.

  • michelle

i like the part about us all being sisters but i think light skin girls get a bad rap, that we all bythces that think we like that cause we light, ive had to learn to embrace my lighter skin not to make a darker skin girl feel bad but to boost my confidence, ive read where a guy said his mama told him that all light skin girls are evil wtf!, that's just the reverse of what the black community historical has thought of dark skin women and it is kind of shallow to show black couples as a motivating factor for african-americans, many blacks fall in love with people outside their race it doesn't make them less black just in love

  • AaRonYa

    AMEN!!!!! EVERYBODY LOVES CHOCOLATE! All over this earth people desire dark everything, from coke, pepsi, cake, candy, a black dress, black tie, and black men. In order of beauty in my view;

    1 babies,

    2 children who aren't spoiled!

    3 Black MEN

There is nothing finer than a chocolate MAN! No disrespect to the lighter bros, but, my choice is deep dark chocolate and not to eat.

  • c

In my hometown I see so….many black on black couples, regardless of what the media depicts. The media does it's best to brainwash us and make people think that all blacks do is fuss and fight so the black man seeks someone out of his race. Lies, lies, lies. There are plenty black men who absolutely love women of their own race, who prefers to wake up to someone who looks like them and who can understand them. No matter who you are, couples have ups and downs. Magazines should show black on black love just like they do the others, instead of trying to make it seem like it don't exist, what a crack of s—. It still exist! and it can't help but exist, because IT IS NATURAL! and I know natural doesn't mean one has to, but one sure is comfortable with it than any other, and some black men are not afraid to admit it!

HEY, WHETHER CHOCOLATE, CARMEL, OR VANILLA……WE NEED TO GET OUR SWEET BLACK ASSES TO THE POLLS AND TRY TO STOP THE REPUBS. AND PEE PARTY FROM TURNING THE CLOCK BACKWARD!!!

  • Jacqueline

Why do you always put couples who are not married with couples who are? It is abig difference ,being married and playing house until the guy who the chick is playing house with wants to trade the old girl friend in for a younger model. Why did"nt you put LL CoolJ up there him and his wife have been legally married for a number of years[ Twit]

  • Kai

Where the heck are you people from. Where do they get this garbage from. Every black community from east to west coast, from north to south, in every freakin black community Black are with Blacks. This has been this way since many of us were children. Who prints this garbage! Stop buying into the garbage you see in the media. Sheeeesh what hogwash! You don’t even see any whites in Black communities. Stop buying intot he garbage you see and read in the media.

Uhm…@Sigh! – You do see where it sections off those boyfriend/girlfiend couples as "honorable mentions" right? SMDH.

  • College girl

I think it is erroneous to state that "depicting black couples it the media is sad? what planet did you fall from? I think it's absolutely beautiful and it shows the love that these black people have for one another, instead of the constant bickering that now takes place among Black men and women. Good Job Khadija Allen

  • Optimus Prime-Real E

Some of these people are not married! and why even mention Snoop and Anthony Anderson….otherwise I like the list to bad our couples never get talked about on ….lol BLACK blogs and in black media

  • http://zjoww.wordpress.com Aisynia

@helplessandlovingit I don't think that it's sad that pictures of black couples should be shown as an encouragement to the black community. I think the lack of it would be sadder because that would mean the black community is deaf to the plights of their brothers and sisters.

    Great article btw.

  • Monica

I could be wrong, but I didn't think Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga were married yet.

  • jennifer

Kevin Hart and his wife are seperated and will soon divorce. He talks about it in his latest comedy tour. I guess it is his way of healing.

  • helplessandlovingit

Whenever images such as these are shown it really shows how sad the black community is. Showing pictures of black couples as a motivating factor is sad.

  • imcafeaulait

Although you're throwing around the term "superstar" quite loosely here, I love that you are giving our chocolate sisters their due! About time.

  • Please Believe

Black Love is ohhhh sooooo beautiful! Thank you Madamenoire — my week is off to a great start.

  • curveball

Courtney Vance and Angela Bassett were together more than 10 yrs before they were cast as husband and wife on ER. And Dwyane Wade is divorced his "Chocolate Wife."

  • AKAtude

    Good post.

All hail to the First Lady Michelle Obama, the epitome of a classy beautiful black queen with her king.

Savannah looks stunning in that picture. I hope Lebron does marry her. I like them together.
