MTV recently announced that they’re bringing back Cribs, that beloved show that gave us an inside glimpse into the homes of some of our favorite musicians, actors and athletes.  Not that we didn’t already know that celebrities could live such lavish lifestyles, but Cribs showed us everything from in-home stripper poles to gold pool tables, private islands, obligatory food porn fridge shots and more.  And though we assumed that everything we saw was real, we later found out that some of the homes (and cars – ahem, 50 Cent) featured on the show didn’t even belong to the stars who were showing them off.  Hopefully, that won’t be the case this time around.  In honor of its return, let’s take a look back at some of the best MTV Cribs episodes.

Mariah Carey

There was so much to unpack in Mariah Carey’s episode, they had to give her a full hour to display her New York City penthouse.  The butterfly guest bedroom, her lingerie closet, the bedroom-sized bathroom and the lounge chair in her gourmet kitchen…we saw everything except her bedroom (and piano that formerly belonged to Marilyn Monroe). Cribs was clearly meant for a glamorous diva like Carey.

Redman

Redman kept it all the way real when he invited MTV into his Staten Island crib.  Not at all extravagant or boisterous like some of the other Cribs episodes, Redman, among many things, showed viewers his shoebox full of money.  Classic moment in Cribs history.

Macy Gray

The first place Macy Gray introduced us to in her L.A. home was the “Chocolate Room,” chocolate being one of her favorite colors.  The room was replete with a 24/7 piano player – a young boy who Gray jokingly referred to as “Elton John when he was 7.”  Every room in her home seemed to have a theme – even her leopard-print bathroom, which she described as purposefully tacky.

Sir Richard Branson

Billionaire Sir Richard Branson has his own island in the Caribbean.  That’s one heck of a crib.  Necker Island (in the U.S. Virgin Islands) is 74 acres and has 10 bedrooms and bathrooms.  And guess who shared the spotlight in Branson’s episode?  Mariah Carey, of course.  She was renting out part of his home, available for a cool $46,000 a night.

Destiny’s Child

Color upon color upon color best describes the Houston, Texas home Destiny’s Child inhabited.  At least Beyoncé’s pink and purple sari-filled room.  The Knowles family lived at the lakefront home, along with Beyoncé’s honorary sister Kelly Rowland.

Soulja Boy

Soulja Boy was only a teenager at the time he filmed his MTV Cribs episode, taking us on a tour of his Staples Center-adjacent Los Angeles loft.  And who can forget the moment he proudly displayed and then licked his own shoe, exclaiming, “Taste like money”?

TPainT-Pain

Who has a stripper pole in his house? T-Pain does.  And a large home theater.

Steve Francis

Former Orlando Magic basketball player Steve Francis showed off his Houston, Texas crib, replete with Franchise Lane, his outdoor basketball court.

Ying Yang Twins

While their love for all things nautical came as a surprise, it was really the energy and personalities of D-Roc and Kaine that satisfied true Cribs fans during their episode.

Missy Elliott

Missy’s Florida pad was replete with Lambo furniture (with fish tanks for armrests) and a waterfall statue that spelled out her name.  Ballin’.
