The miracle of motherhood is one of the most joyful experiences that we can experience on earth. Unfortunately, it can be one of the scariest. Once those months add up and the due date approaches, it’s natural for new moms to get a little nervous. We’ve all heard of scary real-life experiences and seen movie scenes that freak us out. But just what should you expect when it’s time to bring a new life into the world?
It’s time to talk about the fears we all have about giving birth for a little help with calming our collective nerves.
Pooping On The Delivery Table
The bad news? It’s going to happen. The not-so-bad news? It happens to damn near everyone. In fact, it’s a good sign that your labor is going well. And someone will be there to clean it up, stat. But if you’re that paranoid, you can also ask your birthing partner to keep air freshener nearby.
Stretching It Out Of Shape… Forever
You can relax. Vaginas are much more flexible than most people give them credit for.
The Epidural Won’t Work
They may not always work, but it’s very unlikely. They provide relief 9approximately 98 to 99 percent of the time.
The Pain Will Be Too Much To Endure
Labor is no walk in the park, but the pain isn’t necessarily constant. And, again, those epidurals, when given at the right time, will help make the pain easier to manage.
C-Section Recovery Is Terrible
Most women report that it’s not as bad as they thought it would be. But there will be pain around the incision, making it difficult to get up and out of bed without help at times. Still, it was stated that getting up and moving actually helps to ease the pain.
I Won’t Get To The Hospital In Time
It does happen. But it happens more often in the movies (and in viral videos) than in real life. As long as the birthing center is less than an hour away, you’re more than likely to make it in time.
He’s Not Going To Make It
Many new dads find they can handle the…mess when it’s their own baby that’s going to come out of it. But if you have a feeling he won’t be able to cope, you can ask the doctor to give him a heads up to look away when things get really messy.
Tearing
Many women do deal with tears during childbirth, but not all. And luckily, since the area has higher-than-usual blood flow, the healing time is relatively short. There are steps you can take to prevent it.
So Many Stretch Marks
Stretch marks happen. Not to every woman, but to many. Some moms consider them a badge of pride. Others take precautionary steps to prevent them as best as they can.
I Am Going To Act A Fool
Probably. But we’re pretty sure it’s a crime to hold anything a woman says while in labor against her later. But maybe make it a no-filming zone, just in case.
