There are so many things in life that can steal your attention. Work. Family. Friends. Romance. The list practically never ends. No matter how many obligations you have, it’s important to not forget about yourself. Too many people put their needs on the back burner in efforts to help others.
The time has come for you to get back in touch with your spirit.
Here are a few ways.
Look for balance
Too much of something is never really good. Take a look at your life and look for areas that need rebalance. You just might discover time you never knew you had.
Pray/meditate
Whether you’re religious or not, there’s something beautiful about silence. Spend a few minutes each day praying and/or meditating. You’ll feel much calmer.
Schedule “you” time
If you find your schedule is too busy for comfort, pencil in a standing appointment with yourself. Even if you don’t do anything but roll around in bed, at least you’ve made the commitment to spend time with you.
Journal
This is a wonderful way to get in touch with your spirit. Jot down your aspirations, goals and anything else that comes to mind. Consider a journal as the foundation to your personal story. It’s pretty amazing to look back on previous entries and see how far you’ve come.
Take a trip
When’s the last you took a few vacation days for yourself? Yes, it’s great to go on group trips and family outings but you also need time to yourself. There’s nothing wrong with traveling by yourself so long as you stay safe. Head to a bed and breakfast for the weekend, go to an all-inclusive resort, or stay local. It doesn’t matter what you do so long as you make time for a personal trip.
Attend a conference
It’s OK if you aren’t besties with Oprah. Check event convention centers around town for upcoming conferences that focus on self worth and building a healthy esteem. If you’re willing to dish out a little money, you should enjoy the experience.
Read an inspirational message
Head to your local bookstore or shop online for a motivational book that will help lift your spirit. It might sound cliché but really can deliver the results you want to see.
Make a vision board
“Vision without action is merely a dream.” — Joel A. Barker
You don’t have to be into arts and crafts to see the value in creating a vision board. Take all the hopes and dreams you have for your life in your mind and place them on a board (you can go the virtual route by using platforms like Pinterest). Once you start visualizing what you want to accomplish, routes to achieving them will start to surface.
Create a bucket list
Here’s something fun to try. Take time to think about all the things you want to do and see. Do you have a clear picture in your head? Get a pen and paper ready so you can start making a bucket list. Feel free to be as wild as you want when it comes to your imagination.
Listen to your inner voice
It’s OK to have people in your camp who you trust, but at some point, you really need to trust your gut. Listen to your inner voice so you can start to make more decisions for yourself.
Release unnecessary baggage
Time to clean house! Make a list and check it twice. The time has come for you to say goodbye to all the negativity in your life. Release all naysayers, bad situations and baggage from previous drama that happened in the past. The less “noise” you have, the easier it will be to hear yourself.
